Nice forum we have here. wow, way to go on the passive aggressiveness lol i'm not even saying this doesn't stop spammers, i'm saying it makes it more inaccessible to more people because you literally have to own the game to get an account here now for some reason. |

If 2 minutes is the difference between choosing to make a forum account and just leaving a question unanswered, maybe it's best that time isn't spent on the forums anyway. We're not implementing this because it's too much work to ban a spammer. We're implementing this because that amount of work is unnecessary. Why do you assume there are dozens of in-game messages? We don't get that many registrations and the GDForum account isn't used for anything else atm, so it'll take probably just another minute to find the message and compare it to the username. It's much easier and time-efficient to add a preventative measure that takes a few minutes than have a reactive measure that can take much longer. Just because we moderate doesn't mean we'll be on 24/7 to ban spammers instantly before they create tons of new threads and posts. you really think having to ban spammers is unnecessary work? isn't that what mods are supposed to do anyway? also, i assume there will be dozens because this forum has thousands of members, think more will come? absolutely. yes i am aware that the mods are not online 24/7 but the same can apply to the in-game messages anyway. i have no idea why you all think this system will work because it's less convenient than "check, accept, ban if they spam" way No, moderators are supposed to focus on making sure the forum stays a good place. Sure, banning spammers is a part of that, but it's not the largest part and we've been spending a lot of time on it recently with the less appropriate posts and such. We do have thousands of members, but that doesn't mean we accept a lot of people per day. 20 a day for one year results in over 7,000 members, and 20 requests isn't that much at all. If we let in a spammer, we have to ban them and manually remove all their created posts and threads, and it inconveniences everyone frequenting the forum at the time. That is compared to the registering user/staff spending 2 minutes to send/check a username. |

As Tama_N said earlier, I don't think anyone who wants to come here would not have a GD account. If they want to join the Geometry Dash forum and not discuss Geometry Dash AT ALL, then they could have bad intentions. |

You can do it for most games. i don't know anyone who would pirate the game just to make a damn account on this forum. it's pretty pathetic how that's a requirement to even post on this forum. yeah the mods want to get rid of spam but this makes it hard for everybody. what's the difference if they have to do more work scanning messages and matching them up anway? and there is an obvious difference for the user to just register from one source, which is what is supposed to happen. this is literally taking away ease of usability in the forum just so some mods have to do a tiny speck less of work. |

You can download the game without paying money if you really can't/don't want to. This isn't to reduce the amount of work, it's to make it much harder for spammers to register while only making it slightly harder for real gd users to register (yes, it's not actually that hard). I'm afraid the current system of banning spammers as we spot them simply isn't working because we simply can't catch them fast enough before they do any harm. It's very annoying for forum users to have spammers on the forum, especially when they deliberately troll, spam and harass people and you'd be surprised how much they can do in a few minutes. Even if we ban them quickly, they just make another account and do it again and again. We're trying to break the cycle here so hopefully, maybe we can stop them. We're sorry to anyone who gets inconvenienced by this, but it had to be done. Of course this solution isn't perfect and we'd be happy to discuss any other better solutions, but the old way wasn't working. |

Really, would anyone who doesn't want to buy GD want to join a forum for the game they don't own and aren't interested in? No, they wouldn't. |

Nowhere on the forum does it say this forum is for Geometry Dash Lite players. They are two completely different games! Geometry Dash Lite has nearly no features at all compared to the full version, they could hardly be more different. Why would a Geometry Dash Lite person need to use the forum? ...Exactly. And could you explain how it's "bad practice" to have to verify your account by sending a message in-game? Surely letting spammers spam is worse practice. You think there are "a lot of reasons" why people want the game but can't buy it (even though it's just two dollars). Could you actually give some reasonable, realistic reasons why people would do both of those things? Because I sure can't. |
