well, what if that person takes a whole new name when he/she joins the forum? like when I joined here I used coolcream1232, my tag. now its nightshimmer. my GD id though, is really weird. It used to be I think... and i did this when I was 9... wolfeatlam and then I changed it to coolcream1232 nightsky1210. what would you do then? how would you know it was me?

Well, we only need to know that you use a GD account when you are going to register. So after you have done registering, you won't have to worry much about it anymore.

You have to put in your GD username in the request box, regardless of what your forum username is.

What if you want to join the forums but don't have a GD account? Would you contact a moderator to verify?

What if you want to join the forums but don't have a GD account? Would you contact a moderator to verify? It's not hard to make one if you already have GD downloaded. I don't think anyone who doesn't have GD would want to join.

or y'know, actually try to combat spam yourself instead of making this long process of registering. what if i'm a new player and i don't have a gd account?? what if i'm playing the lite version? what if i just want to drop a question? registering for a forum should never be this complicated (plus adding three layers of bullshit to the mix). stop being so lazy and actually do your job as mods.

This is a great idea. It will prevent (or at least, reduce) spammers

Why didn't I ever think of this? Great to see the forums will be a better place now.

This isn't a long or complicated process- it literally takes two minutes to open GD, find the user and send a quick message. I don't see what the fuss is all about, especially when the alternative is constantly facing spam attacks. I also don't understand how identifying spammers simply from a username, email and request message is part of a moderator's job. I'll give you an example: a user named luizz, an email of luizzgamer@gmail.com, and a request message of "I want to join the forums". That would've been just one of the many spammers we banned over the last week, all with equally legit usernames, emails and request messages.

We're not implementing this because it's too much work to ban a spammer. We're implementing this because that amount of work is unnecessary. Why do you assume there are dozens of in-game messages? We don't get that many registrations and the GDForum account isn't used for anything else atm, so it'll take probably just another minute to find the message and compare it to the username. It's much easier and time-efficient to add a preventative measure that takes a few minutes than have a reactive measure that can take much longer. Just because we moderate doesn't mean we'll be on 24/7 to ban spammers instantly before they create tons of new threads and posts.
