i mean another chance, and make a giant announcements of it being revoked when abused, because the staff have improved since the ranks existed. With more rule enforcement, the ranks might not promote spam, as long as there are strict mods doing their job It's been proven in the past that more rule enforcement usually doesn't help stop the promotion of spam/useless posting/etc. In fact, in many cases it actually makes it worse.  I personally wouldn't mind seeing posting ranks added, I mean they do add some variety to the forum, and makes it more fun to post, but I know for a fact that many members will abuse it as soon as it's added. And if they were to be re-added, I don't think that it's a good idea to have 20+ different ranks, which is how many there would be if all the GD and GDM levels were included in them; this would probably promote spam even more; I think that 3-5 ranks is all that's necessary.  I second this. I'd much prefer there to be these kind of ranks: 10 posts 100 posts 250 posts 500 posts 1000 posts RyanAB If you do consider bringing back ranks, please make sure they aren't too high! Well this thread grew quickly.
I always liked the posting ranks, and I obviously want to bring them back. I don't see what's wrong with warning people if they spam; there is absolutely no reason to spam in regular boards (now that the NSL is staying) and if they do, they definitely deserve a warning and would have deserved one whether the ranks were brought back or not. If the ranks cause a change of behaviour in posters, we don't want those kinds of members in our forums anyways, so you can think of them like a filter to see who can handle them and who can't.
The ranks make the forum special, give a more GD feel, and encourage less active and new members to start posting and be active.
And so, the length of these ranks shouldn't matter either. It can go up to 100,000, and like I stated earlier, if it encourages certain members to spam then they should have been warned for their behaviour previously anyways.

I was also thinking that maybe the difficulty faces could appear next to the rank name, much like swords appear next to staff names. So it would look like this:  Easy: 0-100 posts  Normal: 101-250 posts  Hard: 250-500 posts  Harder: 500-1,000 posts  Insane: 1,000-5,000 posts  Demon: 5,000+ posts Or instead of stars you could just have the difficulty face under the rank.
