Forums are objectively better than most modern social media, so i hope i hear more about posts being made here more often, (gd username, "canadaman" if anybody wanna chat :3 )

I mean, I agree, but there's not really much incentive for people to use the forum like in the last. RobTop doesn't browse/post here anymore, GD big names don't post here anymore, demon lists were moved offsite, news hardly gets posted, I assume level judging is dead, no forum events, and the core user base is gone so even when theres nothing to talk about, the place isn't active enough to keep people coming back.

At this rate I'm not sure how much can be done to fix that though. Of the people who are here, a fair few seem to be getting on the older side of the playerbase and are much busier with life than they used to be (idk about Bagley but both me and Will are/were busy with college; tbh I'm still wondering how I have the time to check here a couple times each day but maybe that's because I'm still a sophomore lol). 2020 really was the nail in the coffin since Discord burst in popularity and became much more accessible and convenient to use, so the vast vast majority of the players (and basically all of the most dedicated ones who kept playing between updates) migrated there, and it can get tough to ferry news between multiple platforms if neither RobTop nor any mods are here anymore; I tried doing some a little but Discord is too distracting for me to use nowadays so I chose to take a break from it for my own sake, although I do understand it would be nice to have more news filtering in here now that we're actually getting some. Because of all these factors combining in the way we did, that's probably why no level judging really happens anymore (even the judges we do have don't have time to play regularly anymore afaik), and since there are literally only 3 even semi-active staff including myself, it's harder to coordinate events or even see the point of doing so, given how few people would likely be here to participate. Everything's just so accessible elsewhere that even for the people who are active, there's just not much of a point to doing things here anymore.

idk about Bagley but both me and Will are/were busy with college I'm graduating in a few months (hopefully) so this will change! There are definitely enough people around to have discussions, I think the main thing is that the forum currently is too big to support that kind of tight-knit group. We don't have news or events anymore, but I think a few General Discussion/Lounge threads a week would be sustainable (currently, most of them just don't have very much substance). I'm completely out of touch with GD so I don't have many things to talk about, unfortunately.

Discord has essentially implemented all kinds of forum-ish features, causing people to have no reason to use the forums as Discord is way more accessible and people are there. Also Reddit exists.

I don't understand how game communities all over collectively saw discord and thought, "yeah this is a better alternative to our native forums/hubs." And this being the only real alternative is grim

It was new and exciting when it first came out, and everyone jumped on it because (in theory) it merged the organisation of forums with the simplicity of instant messaging. I don't think people realised at the time that they were trading convenience for literally everything else. No archival system, little to no customisation unless you're willing to fork over ten dollars a month to Discord Inc., and an absolutely soulless user interface that manages to somehow make communicating with people within a fandom feel like work. If I ever were to come into possession of a time machine, my very first action before stopping 9/11 and killing baby Hitler would be to travel back to 2015 and warn everyone that Discord is a scam.
