Posting this here since this isn't totally related to just GD.
Let's say hypothetically that a game has amazing gameplay and design, but the community around the game is awful. Would the community alone ruin the whole game for you?
In my opinion, it would depend on the game and how reliant it is to the community. For a typical single player game, I wouldn't mind much. But for games that are more dependent on the community (like Geometry Dash and Friday Night Funkin), I feel like your general opinion of the game would change based on the community. When a game is reliant on the community to keep their game "alive", the community unintentionally controls everything. From dictating which single figure controls the general community, to what trends influences the creators, it's up to the community to decide what everyone does, either for the better or worse.
Knowing that the GD community mostly consists of prepubescent kids, this is kinda the reason I recently started to despise this game. It's chilling to know these kids that haven't even finished high school are the ones dictating who gets "cancelled" on Twitter. But I guess that's just the modern internet for you.
What are your opinions?

You definitely have a point on how closely the game is tied to its community and I do feel similarly about GD (and actively being a part of the community as a teen didn't help since I'm a much different person and am very embarrassed about a lot of things I did back then lol). Sometimes the game doesn't even need to rely on the community all that much to have an effect, though. When I played Minecraft I just relied on my own imagination and occasionally my siblings/friends - I didn't play on servers, participate in mob votes, actively follow updates, etc, which I feel is similar to a lot of the older players, but I did consume some SMP content on YouTube (which made me aware of just how many kids play the game). Even more than that, though, I found myself watching a lot of existential content about Minecraft and how lonely it is, and now I can't play it without feeling this deep sense of loneliness and sadness since it's always just me (and my nostalgia). Maybe I'd still enjoy it if I didn't do that to myself.

I don't think a community can really ruin my experience, unless I was forced to interact with it beyond what's still fun; but that would be bad game design anyway. If the community is insanely toxic it would probably bug me but I could still enjoy the game if it's fun.

You can't escape kids on the internet, that's just how it is.
And GD isn't alone in this. Basically every gaming community is comprised of kids unless you're playing solitaire. Try to accept that and maybe you'll find some enjoyment in playing GD again, it's still fun as ever, maybe a little stale.
