gdforum should be revived?

not to be pessimistic, but i think discord has nearly replaced the forums
discord is a lot more prominent now than it was when this place was last thriving
but who knows, maybe more people will join when 2.2 is finally released

Hmm... idk if I should be posting but, the way I see it, a revival or at least a meaningful one isn't possible at this point. And it goes beyond the lack of updates to the game which itself, is a major factor. The main things missing for this forum go become the norm again are: Accessibility, novelty, incentive and notoriety.

Starting with accessibility, this is the easy one everyone has already mentioned: it's easier for people to stick to their d*scord servers or R*ddit threads for their GD info because (unfortunately) that's what teenagers and stuff prefer now. Dedicated forums are a thing of the past and have been for years now which is reflected in the amount of forums across other gaming communities that have been closing in favor of "official" discord servers. Tying into the novelty aspect, if the forum wants to attract people to it, a massive overhaul is needed. There's not enough much "draw" to the forum like there used to be. The forums used to offer things important to the community that weren't really accessible anywhere else, like "close" interaction with large creators and skilled players, the demon list, a place to advertise your stuff and receive feedback, a place where RobTop regularly lurked and occasionally made announcements in addition to being a hub where game news was posted. Alot of that stuff seems to have been replaced by off-site alternatives. If the forum wants to revive it needs some sort of novelty to attract players, but Proboards is a pretty crappy and outdated site (its older than many players lmao) so their probably isn't much room for innovation in the forum and even if there was, I doubt any staff here has time to take those ambitions.

And even if the forum did a massive 180, it needs some notability to regain relevancy. The forums wouldn't have worked if someone like Darnoc wasn't the one who created and promoted it. Someone "notable" needs to be able to spread the word of a forum revival and have either the audience to bring a large user base or the "clout" to draw other key players here so they can bring their userbases. As much as I'd want this place to live on, until major changes are made, it will probably continue to shrink or stay at the base it has now till the end of the game's lifetime

it was fun for 13-year old me to browse the forums once I was done with filling out the quota for the rated level list. I'd talk with people and even have fun on the Nonsense Lounge. Such a great place, to think that itd be overshadowed.

I don't necessarily think it should be revived tho, its just nice looking back at the place and being nostalgic about an older time when I was just an immature but cool kid.

Yeah these forums are like super dead compared to 2021.

Honestly, I prefer it dead. It's had its run, and let's be honest, 80% of the active members nowadays are very immature. Getting the gdtwitter/Reddit/Discord people to come is not going to change anything, and that's putting it optimistically.
