Hello! I’m new at this forum. I was wanted to tell to all of you that I’m trying to upload the Uruguayan Anthem, but I couldn’t do that. The version that I use is taken from WIKIMEDIA COMMONS, and it can be perfectly used because it is in public domain. I tried to upload it with different accounts, and I received the same message. Also, I can’t believe that you get completed banned just because you uploaded a song that has copyright. I mean, in YouTube you only get demonetized video, or other platforms are simply with less restrictions. I suggest to RobTop that he moves to SoundCloud, which have more songs, and most of them are cool.

I'm not sure of NG's copyright protections and how they approach it, so I can't say why you can't upload public domain music there, but RobTop prefers to use NG because it's probably easier to port songs from there into GD; in addition to this, he can personally approve or ban songs from use in GD. Even though I'm sure NG has plenty of its own problems, the system for GD has been in place for so long that it might be more trouble than it's worth to completely overhaul it. SoundCloud itself has more copyright issues (probably because some people can actually make a profit there) so that's probably why RobTop has avoided it.

I remember when i had an account on ng and tried posting a song and being banned until 2036, also, soundcloud also has more "explicit" songs than ng. Not to mention you have to pay for soundcloud, where as ng is free.

Newgrounds probably just wants to stay as far away from a lawsuit as possible.

And youtube can sue you if you use it without a licencing agreement. I think rob top mainly just wanted control over song, and wanted to not have a lawsuit on his hands.

Soundcloud has a monthly fee whereas ng is completely free.

Hello! I’m new at this forum. Welcome Edit: wait this post isnt july 2023 💀 I was wanted to tell to all of you that I’m trying to upload the Uruguayan Anthem, but I couldn’t do that. The version that I use is taken from WIKIMEDIA COMMONS, and it can be perfectly used because it is in public domain. I tried to upload it with different accounts, and I received the same message. I have no clue what rules Newgrounds goes by these days cuz I haven't been there in forever, but to use a song in GD it not only needs to be uploaded to Newgrounds, the uploader has to also be a verified uploader before the song will work in GD. You can't just upload from any account. Otherwise we'd be in the situation we were in back in 1.9 where people were uploading anything they wanted to be used in GD, which was for the better in some cases (level mixes, fun/meme songs, etc.) and for the worse in others (people uploading spliced/remixed or even raw versions of copyrighted songs, including ones not even meant to be on newgrounds) Also, I can’t believe that you get completed banned just because you uploaded a song that has copyright. I mean, in YouTube you only get demonetized video, or other platforms are simply with less restrictions. I mean, that feels like a just punishment. YouTube is a bit different of a situation with how varied its content is, but if you're uploading an entire copyrighted song to newgrounds for the purpose of publishing it as music, I don't see why they shouldn't ban you. I suggest to RobTop that he moves to SoundCloud, which have more songs, and most of them are cool. Depends, he has to set up a contract with SoundCloud which probably won't be cheap, and it's not guaranteed they will accept an offer. GD has actual ties to Newgrounds that made this integration with NG music possible in 1.9. It was mainly meant as a way to boost exposure to NG creators since they (specifically DJVI, DJ Nate, and Waterflame) were practically the foundation of geometry dash as a game. It's possible a switchover to SoundCloud can happen, but I wouldn't bet on it
