..RobTop didn't make official levels, but the updates stayed the same. Thanks to Tophatical for inspiration.

Then a lot of,geometry dash we know wouldnt be the same, it would start with a huge change of or lack of existence of geometry dash lite. A lot of the other games like sub zero and meltdown wouldnt exist. There might also be lists on the forum for what levels to beat while climbing. The menu would be drastically changed as well, as there wouldnt be a main level button. Neptune wouldnt have made a v2 of the main levels sinse they wouldnt exist. Levels that were inspired from main levels also wouldnt exist, like quantum procesing. There also wouldnt be song presets for the editor. However, i feel like updates would be a tiny bit faster since official levels arent needed to be made, and the songs wouldnt have to be edited. Not to mention that song artists like dj-nate and f-777 would have a more diffrrent way of getting noticed, also the changed on the forums where posting ranks might not be a thing anymore, also a lot of the icons we know and love today wouldnt exist because there wouldnt be a main level to complete to get them. I hope that helps

This is a very hard question to answer, especially since Newgrounds support was only added over a year after the initial release. Most importantly - where would we get songs initially if not from the official levels then?
But even if we omit that and just assume that Rob adds the same songs just without the levels, there's still the huge issue of GD Lite mentioned above. For many people that is the entrance point to the game and if that didn't exist, I presume the community would be much smaller.
I don't think it would have any real effect on update speed though, levels are just a minor part of what has to be done for every update. What I'd argue about though is that I don't think updates would've even been the same if we didn't have the levels. For example, going off of the leaked Fingerdash betas, I highly suspect that Rob added the dash orbs just because of that one part at the beginning of the song. And I don't think that was the only time he added something just because it would fit an official level.
Regarding online levels, I don't think the change for current levels would be that huge nowadays, since these are very far from what the official levels look like. I wonder what design would have early levels (pre-1.9 or even pre-1.7) would have went for without the inspiration though. Probably nothing too different from what we know though given the capabilities available back then.

C00perTr00per moved the thread to Debate for now since I'm not sure if it really fits Discussion given that this is a sort of question-and-answer based thing. The question Cvolton raised about where songs would come from would be interesting to ponder (I know RobTop had considered other places like Soundcloud but had decided against it due to copyright-free music being less common there afaik; maybe other copyright-free music from YouTube or something would have been done?). Official levels also inspired many early levels and still continue to do so, so there wouldn't have been as many levels (and those that did exist probably wouldn't be as creative from the jump; the building community would basically be a few steps back without that original inspiration). The community in itself would also be smaller, since as both Storm and Cvolton mentioned, the absence of the Lite version would throw a wrench into that growth (although we don't know if an alternative would be made - maybe the full game in itself would begin as a free game instead?). The player base as a whole would also be significantly less skilled for awhile, given that the official levels served as introductions to many basic gameplay mechanics and as readable, fairly simple levels to play for beginners before they would get into the more difficult, more ambitious custom levels. Another thing Cvolton went over briefly in his post was update speed. While I agree that a lack of official levels wouldn't significantly change the speed at which updates were made, I think that would only be the case at first, maybe. Even though RobTop has a more in-depth knowledge of new features in an update before anyone else, I think building the official levels also served as practice to him - to test the features, to see how they work with others, to see how they affect difficulty, and to see if any glitches are there. Not being able to get this practice and advance knowledge of how each feature will work when completely implemented into the game like the official levels are would maybe slow the process of being able to add new things (particularly those that rely on building off of a pre-existing feature, like new blocks in the level editor) and make the game clunkier as a whole.

Now that i think about it, yeah update speed wouldn't change. But one other thing i should mention is that golden coins would be implemented in a different way, or not implemented at all. You cant have every update the exact same as it would be with main levels, there would be drastic changes in some of the updates. And jayflght mentioned above that the fact that main levels are a gateway to understanding game mechanics would be harder and that would cause the community to be smaller.

My guess is that Levels would be more 1.0 inspired. Levels similar to dear nostalgists and conical depression. People would still use different blocks but try to stick to the original style

Then we'll definitely need to depend on the communtiy for our entertainment. Levels will be less fun to play as it starts from taking parts from main levels, change it a bit, then put it in your level, it'll be much harder to understand the game. There also wouldn't be prearranged music and we would have to use the music from Newgrounds and other creators. Of course we can just download the main level songs from creators like Waterflame, Dj nate, etc but would these artists even exist in the community or even noticed by RobTop to make music for the game? And if we could, we would still have to edit some songs for them to be the same.
The icons ships, balls, UFO, etc that we all know about will be gone, as completing levels and collecting secret coins from the main levels wouldn't be possible at all. On the brightside, RobTop can focus on making better level artifacts and make the game much more interesting instead of focusing on main levels and stuff.
