I was just scrolling through these forums and I thought I'd make a list of (maybe) significant events that have happened since then, alongside some useless trivia. 2.1 was released on January 16, 2017, 1,443 days ago. For reference, 1,443 days is almost four years (approximately 3.953425 years): - If someone were 15 years old on the date when 2.1 was released, they would legally be an adult now.
- The forums were created on January 3, 2015, and the first user was Darnoc703 (who created the forums). 2.1 was released 744 days afterwards, meaning that this forum has existed through 2.1 longer than it has any other update. In comparison, 2.0 was released 235 days after the forums were created. That's just over 3 times less days.
- United States president Donald Trump was inaugurated on January 20, 2017. If update 2.2 isn't released by January 20, 2020, it will be the only update to sit through an entire U.S. presidency.
- The United Kingdom began its withdrawal process (Brexit) from the European Union on March 29, 2017, and its transition from the E.U. will finish up by December 31, 2020. The game has not been updated through all of this.
- 2.2 was supposed to be released by Christmas 2020. It wasn't.
- 2.1 will be four years old on January 16, 2020 (happy birthday!). Surprisingly, according to data from steamcharts.com, Geometry Dash has been gaining players (+0.95% player gain as of the last 30 days).
- Viprin's most recent level (Kyrie Eleison) was released over a year ago on October 2, 2019.
- Geometry Dash SubZero was released on December 12, 2017. This technically makes it the most recent official Geometry Dash content.
- A lot of famous people have passed away between the release of 2.0 and 2.1, including (but definitely not limited to) Kobe Bryant, Chadwick Boseman, Cameron Boyce, XXXTentacion, Juice WRLD, Naya Rivera, Stan Lee, Mac Miller, and Alex Trebek.
- This forum almost has 15,000 members (14,199 as of December 29, 2020). Interestingly, the most users online on the forums was 1,070 on January 13, 2017, only three days before 2.1 was released. The forum hit 10,000 members on April 19, 2017.
- Forum owner RyanAB's last post was on March 13, 2018, or 1,022 days from today.
- Geometry Dash Lite players still haven't gotten to experience a demon-difficulty level. Sadness!
- The first teaser for 2.2 was revealed on November 21, 2017, or 1,138 days ago.
- Fortnite was released on July 25, 2017. It is on patch 15.1, released on December 15, 2020, and its last major update (15.0) was released on December 2, 2020.

Yall know, If you want 2.2 go play geometry dash lite. Its in update 2.2 (but not the one we were waiting for thou)5 Well, I can wait honestly. I don't play this game much at all anymore, but I do like to dig through the forums. I just think that it's interesting that so much has changed since 2.1. I'm not exactly foaming at the mouth for 2.2, but it will be a cool surprise to see it. Hopefully. Thank you horizon Lowkey though we must revive the forums, currently the only people who use them are basically killing it lol except for you willflame, keep it up bro Honestly I think that the forums will have a surge of popularity when 2.2 hits. I'm not sure if it will last, but there will definitely be at least some new activity. It all revolves on how invested RobTop is in this game.

2.2 will probably give both the game and the forums a surge of life again but if it does, it's all up to Rob to keep it going - the best plan of action imo is to shoot for smaller updates every few months and hire a team to assist, which could not only be useful for smoothing out small updates and bugs but also help the occasional larger update to go along more quickly. If he does neither of those (particularly the smaller update part), the excitement will disappear as fast as it materialized, and GD will most likely breathe its last breath and die completely, given that it's already been dying for 2 years at this point.

Honestly even though i wasn't there during the time with the most activity i wish i was because it looked like a nice place, hope some day it goes back to its former glory even though it is quite unlikely

I wish I could go back to that time around 2017-2018, I would have done a lot of things differently.

It was so active that there were like 500 active users per day

I hardly follow GD anymore but from what I've seen the game is still pretty popular (horizon's statistic agrees), even after so long without updates. It's hard to see a correlation between update frequency with playerbase retention, at least for a game like Geometry Dash with an incredibly extensive editor and levelmaking community. Of course more frequent updates would be amazing, and could possibly cause a greater surge in popularity, but I think 2.1 has shown that GD will still be able to continue onwards for quite some time even without any more updates. On the other hand, I think you described what would happen to the forums pretty accurately.

On the other hand, I think you described what would happen to the forums pretty accurately. Although I agree with your words about the creation community, that entails a slightly different problem, lol. If any new players just happen to be people who have fun creating things in general, then things look good for GD in terms of player base; however, this isn't true for everyone, since many, many other players are neither good at nor inclined to create, so if they are not interested in the ever-expanding world of creations, there isn't much for them in the game since there hasn't been any actual official new content (not player-created) in 4 years (this of course doesn't apply if these players are fine with playing levels). Even if you are the type of person who enjoys creating, despite there definitely being a wide variety of styles and different things you can do in the editor, this can still only go so far for all but the most creative and advanced creators; there are still only a limited amount of blocks, orbs, pads, decorations, etc. and only some are able to bypass these limitations (a good example would be art levels, where simple shapes can be used to create complex designs and objects).
