www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMI9Ol4qzfMWatch the video for more information. BE CAREFUL!!
There is a bot that is infecting other channels. It does it by commenting what seems as a harmless comment/question. Whatever you do, DO NOT REPLY TO THIS COMMENT! That is how you get infected by the bot. If you see one of these comments on your channel, delete it ASAP. If it's not your channel, warn people in the comments section. It targets small channels, and so I figured I'd better post about it here since there is a lot of small channels affiliated with GD. I literally got two of them today. Warn other people as well, spread the word about this bot until it is destroyed or there is a security patch. Until then, stay safe.

Interesting. Could this maybe be connected to the Danzmen situation?

Interesting. Could this maybe be connected to the Danzmen situation? It's very possible it might, now that I think about it. Since YouTube is fixing up Danzmen's case, it may also be patched as well (if it is connected and if YouTube decides to care).

More than one, even. Multiple bot accounts will comment "loved it" and "wanna be friends?" for example. Also does anyone else get default profile picture bots commenting links to what I presume are porn website links specifically on finished livestreams? They're honestly just hilarious to me

Yeah, there are tons of the bots because of how easily it spreads unless people are aware of it (which is why I made this post). Not very bad per se, but all the bots could be used for something sinister in the future when there's enough of them.

They're honestly just hilarious to me I’ve seen those too, they choose a random timestamp and say something generic, then link to some shady website. Probably not connected, but just as obnoxious.

I don't really mind it. I've gotten 4 different bots comment on my videos. Of course this is good for the algorithm so I don't delete them. Also they're pretty funny how some of them are super try-hard. Obviously this could turn into something bad but I just like seeing the positives

Better to just make a separate comment and pin it.

Better to just make a separate comment and pin it. Yes, it is almost guaranteed at this point that interacting with them infects you (because it's the only thing that could have made the bot infect them, because it targets small channels so it's literally the only comment), so, yeah, I make a seperate comment and pin it. I usually leave my forum name in the same comment as well, so people can contact me if they find anymore of them on any video. I personally believe that any viewers that may happen to stumble across my videos should have the right to NOT be infected with the bots, so that way they can keep their reputation and aren't forced to make any comments unwillingly, so I just delete the bot comments, and pin a comment explaining the situation on every video. While it may be good for the algorithm, it could turn sinister once the person behind this thinks that he has enough accounts collected to do something with them.

I seriously doubt that simply replying to a comment can possibly lead to anything, unless the hacker somehow has access to YouTube’s API, in which case they wouldn’t need to do all this in the first place. Even though there’s a bot controlling the account’s activity, it still only has the capabilities of a regular YouTube account. If you reply to one of my comments, there’s absolutely nothing I can do to gain access to your account. There should be nothing different just because the account is controlled by a bot, it’s still a normal account.

Trollbagley@gmaul.vomDid you watch the video I linked in the original post? The video explains how it works and why interacting with it can cause you to be infected. I can't explain very well because I am not as smart as the guy in the video. Just because you can't access my account if I replied to you, doesn't mean that someone else can, or found a way around it. There is also rock-solid evidence in the video that it does infect you by you interacting with it.

Just because you can't access my account if I replied to you, doesn't mean that someone else can, or found a way around it. There is also rock-solid evidence in the video that it does infect you by you interacting with it. I watched that video, as well as the video that he linked to. There is evidence that people’s accounts are getting stolen, but there’s no evidence that it’s because they interact with his comments. I’m telling you, it is EXTREMELY improbable that someone figured out, using YouTube’s API, how to steal anybody’s accounts, but only if they interact with a specific comment, and not otherwise. It’s probably a filtration system to weed out gullible or non tech savvy people who won’t know any better, because he doesn’t have time to deal with thousands of potential victims who might fall for it at first, but back out later. An insider threat is the ONLY way that I could maybe see it happening. I suppose it’s possible that the accounts are controlled by a rogue YouTube employee with access to the back end of YouTube’s system, who’s harvesting data about engagement with comments for research purposes, or perhaps just having a bit of malevolent fun by creating these accounts as a social thought experiment. My guess as to what’s going on? It’s probably some dude in his basement who’s looking to make a quick buck by farming subscribers on all of those channels so he can sell those channels to upstart content creators who are looking for an artificial boost in popularity so the algorithm recommends their videos.

Until this whole situation is resolved, it's probably best to just ignore comments.
