I personally prefer to single tap streams on osu simply because GD has made me way better at single tapping than alternating. IWBTG didnt piss me off that much. And it can't be a coincidence that so many GD players are moving to smash, can it?
Also, vice versa; has your experience in other games improved your performance in GD?

i dont think so
the only thing gd has done good to outside of gd for me is made me learn the ultimate shortcut in photoshop which is space + click-drag which does the same thing in the gd editor which is move the camera when swipe is on and use swipe when swipe is off
very useful shortcut

Glad to see someone plays that hell called i wanna be the guy. :)
*uhm* about your question, i'll answer it with 3 main factors:
- Creativity (when playing a different game with an level editor style just like GD.) - Hand/Eye Coordination + Timing (self-explanatory to the gamers.) - and memory. (ditto)
That's about it for me. we may include the rage factor also but i don't think i get so ease with rage games since each one had it's own BS ways to piss the player off soo.. yeah
