Will the absolute best of 2.1 ever look outdated in the future? It's hard to say to me really. All of 2.0 outdated these days, with its best levels looking just a bit off to today's deco. However, 2.1 is 'the glow update', where glow has dominated in everything, making super realistic art or incredibly complex block designs possible. It's hard for me to imagine getting more advanced deco than we currently have in levels.
Just wondering what other people's thoughts on this are

Eventually a lot of things we idolize now will grow outdated. Chances are by the time that happens though I probably will have left this game since it’s gonna take a while lol.

I can't imagine a level like "The Mayhem War" feeling outdated. Better levels will likely come out in the future, but they still won't make me view the level as if it were just basic or unappealing. Heck, I don't even find some 1.9 levels to be outdated when compared to modern levels. A good example is Rabb2t, still looks great imo and is also a blast to play, unlike most levels now.

I believe we've reached a point where in the technical standpoint decoration has reached its peak, or very near to it. There is just so much more versatility with the types of blocks and decorational objects, as well as triggers in the editor where the only bounds are the imagination. Contrary to this, there were severe limitations of what was visually possible in 1.0, per se, or 1.9 (omg noSLATGIAAA no). The differences in decoration (at least considering the "generic" level from that age) are becoming less and less apparent, again comparing 1.9 vs 2.0 to something like 2.1 to 2.11. So from a purely technical standpoint, it seems unlikely unless something revolutionizes the standard of level decoration and pushes that "generic" bound up. In other words, the sky's the limit when people use their imagination, and it's possible someone will create a new style that everyone will inevitably piggyback off of for CP, and hence creating a new trend or generic style that is better than the previous. It's just following the trend cycle.

I'd like to say no since some of the things people have made in this update seriously shattered expectations, with some creations defying what we believed to be possible with the level editor. But at the same time, I really thought some 2.0 levels were unbelievable, and now that I look back on them, they just pale in comparison to more contemporary decoration.
2.1 really gave the editor a boost unlike any update before it, and on top of that, the community has indulged in this version of the editor longest. The most things are possible now but there's going to be even more diversity come 2.2's release (assuming it releases). I don't know if it would affect the reception top notch 2.1 decoration though.

I guess the next step would be to have realistic and detailed graphics comparable to other games lol. I mean, someone made a level that has an irl photo converted into GD objects, so I wouldn't be surprised if the limits are broken yet again in 2.2 :/

I believe 2.1 is the pinnacle of decoration, with the addition of many things that make decoration much MUCH better. So I believe that 2.1 deco will stay as classics. Especially when people can go so far to compare with real art and reality and many other beautiful stuff.
Unlike 1.x levels (except 1.9) which stays because they are 'very easy demons' or something.

Yes but that won't happen early, It would most likely take 3 updates (In terms of time) to make it look atleast a bit outdated, But we almost reach the limit so it would be hard to notice.
A few 2.0 levels that aged well are Project Astrea, Artificial Ascent or most levels by HotoCot (bias there lol).
2.0 was a time where most creators were still on the process of learning the revolutionary features, You can make a very high quality level with the 2.0 editor but people haven't reached that point that time.
More people started to mastered the arts of effects, designs and movements in 2.1, Most people I saw in 2.1 tried to capture the feel of "Out of GD" levels (Not counting design levels, They evolved but not a huge step).
Standards will increase for sure on the future but it will gradually decrease the jump of standards as we start to reach the peak.

like everyone's been saying it will take a really long time, even some 2.0 levels still hold up today and i highly doubt the average 2.2 level will become high enough in quality to outshine good 2.1 levels

I'd like to see 2.2 if it's better than 2.0 or not. I prefer the old versions of the game because it's all easy to make levels. Especially on 1.9 version.
