Level: Lonely Rebirth ID: 56704978 Requested Rating: 6My Personal Rating: 5GameplayI feel like there is potential in the gameplay, but it leaves a lot to be desired. There really isn't any annoying parts, which is great, but it's kind of unengaging and basic. The first part expected to be carried up by the ramps, but instead I just crashed into the blocks behind it. Please try to avoid these types of deaths by distinguishing what blocks are real and what ones are just decoration (unless you are creating a memory level, but this one doesn't look like a memory level). The next part is fine, but just feels standard to me. Try to play around with the editor and create gameplay that's different and doesn't just require straightflying through obstacles. The UFO part is kind of boring, because it's just platforms copy-pasted on the exact same y-axis. This comes off as a little lazy, so try to add saw blades or something to give the player something more to do. The ball is fine, but again it just feels standard, and doesn't stand out that much. To spice up your gameplay, I'd add more orbs, spikes, and maybe some slopes to give it that dynamic feeling. The orb is definitely going to be missed by first time players too. Also, the transition into the wave is lackluster. I crashed into the platform under the wave portal, or the saw blade next to it a couple of times. Give the player a little bit more time to react, as this is really your only below-average transition in the level. The wave is a little bit better, but just feels a little bit slow and standard. The ship is akin to the first ship, and the last wave is probably the best part of the level in terms of gameplay. It wasn't just triangular shapes that needed to be avoided. It was varied due to some of the small straight parts, which helped it a lot. The speed helped too. There's one straight wave part that lasted a bit too long, so it was annoying to pass. Good Qualities: Has potential, shows knowledge of how to use each vehicle, fun in some parts, not annoying
Things to Improve: Try to make gameplay that stands out, that will be remembered. Play around with the editor and experiment. Otherwise, it'll just be forgotten in favor of other levels with more varied and original gameplay. Also, make the blocks stick out a little bit more so that way the players don't get them mixed up with the background. Finally, try to not have transitions that will kill players on their first playthrough like the first wave's transition did.Gameplay Score: 2.5/5DecorationThe decoration feels very messy to me. The colors crash greatly, and the better parts just feel way too static and bland to be notable. My favorite parts of the level were the first ship and the wave due to the nice simplistic vibe they gave off. They felt kind of like old Jayuff levels, but noticeably weaker in terms of background quality. I think your choice to make non-spinning saw blades really harmed the decoration a lot, it just made the level motionless and, well, lonely. The first part is very messy and it's colors don't help. White objects with straight up neon colored lasers against a pitch black background just don't look too good, and it reminds me of one of my least favorite levels, Tsunemo. To give you an idea of what I'm looking for, go through the featured tab and check out the recently featured levels. They aren't all the best, but they should inspire you and give you a good idea of what RobTop is looking for. The first wave and ball don't really have really good backgrounds or block design. The colors don't mix well at all, and the inverted rainbow blocks are kind of ugly. The light squares in the UFO actually kind of detract from the background, they clash so much with the background. The designs in the rainbow blocks are also very basic. The last ship is very empty and bland with no air decoration and no real background. Try to fill it up. Lastly, the last wave isn't very easy on the eyes. Glow only really looks good when blending is used, and the fact that everything is the same color makes the level hard to look at. There wasn't any decoration in the structures and the random lines on the outside looked a little off. Good Qualities: Has some okayish backgrounds that give off a nice old Jayuff feel, shows some potential.
Things to Improve: Try to pick better colors for your level. Don't make solid lasers the same color as the blocks, and try to add decoration to any part that seems empty. I'm a sucker for decoration, so please try to improve the general block designs and backgrounds of the level. Also, try to add a little motion so the level doesn't feel static, motionless, and empty.
Decoration Score: 1/5Others:Creativity: 1/3 The level shows some creativity with the backgrounds, but just not enough to be memorable. Enjoyability: 1/3
This is the only category that one could get a negative score in, and thankfully you didn't get it. The level isn't annoying, but isn't much else. Memorability: 0.5/2The only things I will really remember about this level are the backgrounds, which are basic and kind of bland. Music Sync: 2/3It seems to have decent sync from what I've heard, but nothing really incredibly synced up to the background music. Flashes would've helped. Music Choice: 0/1
I didn't enjoy the song that much personally. But this one is more opinion based than the other categories. Final Score: 8/22 (34%) [Needs Improvement]This might look really low, but the level just needs improvement throughout. The decoration was the worst detractor of the level I'm sorry, even with the first ship part being passable. Here's some advice for your next level. ‣ Try to add moving blocks to the background and blocks, and next time don't use non-rotating saws so that way the level feels less motionless and flat. ‣ Try to avoid making gameplay that will just be forgotten, and make it truly memorable. Don't make background objects look like gameplay features and avoid making bad transitions like the one in the first wave. ‣ Look at what's been featured recently to get a feel for what is expected to be good for decorating your levels. Pick better colors, and don't leave blank spots.Remember, that there is always room for improvement. This is kind of a high-end Needs Improvement level due to some of it's decent backgrounds and because of how tough I am when judging levels, but I hope my review can help you improve and stand out as a creator. CreativeGuy feel free to agree or disagree with my rating and move it to where you'd like it to go. -RedWhaley14
