Just a special style of review, and be sure you watch the whole video. Here's a text version, and I added something on top of the video review, so take time to read if you want.
Gameplay
Gameplay is not really impressive to me. Here are tips to improve. - Don't mess with player's momentum. This makes the player instantly lose control and given the place where this happens, it's hard for the player to survive that. Teleportation portal keeps momentum so they're much better. However, to be honest, just remodel the gameplay so the player goes through the ship portal no matter what. - The main flaw of the gameplay is that it doesn't give enough time for the player to react. Remember players are NOT you, and it takes time for them to look at the level, come up with the way to pass that, and execute that. This may be quick, but it takes around half a second. Take good care about the camera position and make sure the players can look ahead. - You do sync a bit in the level, but in my opinion that's not enough. Just make sure the player click on beat, then it'll be perfect. - Triggers! It's hard to understand every option of the triggers. I know, it's quite not intuitive. Just try out that part called Easing. It alters the movement so that it looks different. Personally I love Back Out and Exponential Out, but choose whatever you like and integrate that into your level. Also try the rotate trigger, as it is useful.
Decoration - I can tell that this is a simplistic level. However, people always have a mistake of failing to make the level full. Sure you can use less blocks, but you need to have a decent effect that can compare with normal decoration. Although the black and white idea disables the use of colours, you can still use patterns, lines, dots, etc to sharpen your blocks. - The name in the middle of the level is bland. Add triggers to it, or make it stand out by using white. Just don't simply make it show up and do nothing about it. - Make sure the custom portals and orbs are differentiated. I can't clarify if a cube portal is actually a normal size portal. (They are both green.) Make it stand out from others, because people have to guess from your design what actually it is. You make it look like an orb/portal, but it is easy to mistaken the orb/portal as another one. - The background is amazing. Keep that up. You can scrap that idea, modify it, add colours and slap it into another level.
The level is also pretty buggy though. I think you do know that the so-called 'smart blocks' exist because I can see that you used them. Playtest often, and perhaps hand it to your friend to test that. We, as the creator and the person who knows the layout the best. This unfortunately becomes the critical disadvantage to us. It's easy for others to exploit a level, but when fixing bugs, we can never see them coming.
I personally rate this as a high NI to low Decent. There are something to praise, but the whole impression is not really up to standard. To improve, there are 3 steps. 1) Learn from others. Play epic levels to see what is a good deco and gameplay. 2) Experiment. Try out different wacky gameplay, orb combos, mechanics, etc. Just fix what it wrong later on. Originality can earn you a rating or a feature. 3) Persevere. Building a level is never an easy thing. Like art, building, and even creating anything, we first have a rough plan, then we add in details, finally we fine-tune it into a masterpiece. Build, test, repeat. Give your heart in building, and you can get a star rating or a feature someday.
