Hey everyone!
Albeit I'm a bit late, I want it to at least seem as if I'm active, thus I'm casting this that I'm sure 99% of you already know already. 8)
Anyhow, the legendary demon by Knobbelboy, God Eater, was finally verified this Monday, after two years in waiting and insane amounts of hype.
This level came by during the days when Bloodlust still was under verification about a year ago from Knobbelboy's first preview of the level. This showcased about 25% of the full level. The object count for this level was around 60.000 objects. At this time most of the speculation came from its difficulty, where some people claimed it was going to surpass the demons of that time. Some also talked about the ease of cutting a completion video of this level due to it having a lot of black screen as transitions between parts. None the less, many people was hyped to see an extreme demon without the hell theme pop up and actually make a name for itself, while also being really damn well executed from what they saw at the time.
About a month later, the second preview was released, showcasing another 25% of the level, showing off some of the amazing Terraria-inspired art that the level has. This was still being juggled along with Bloodlust, and it was clear for the community, and Knobbelboy that this level was going to be a lot more to bite over than first assumed. The level was racking up objects in a neckbreaking pace, and in combination with things such as Knobbel having Bloodlust and other projects, the previews stopped coming over the summer and fall, and minus some art speedbuilds and Twitch streaming, we didn't see any of the level in a YT vid until December, when the third preview dropped.
The third preview showcased the full layout. While the level was not complete or in a state near completion, about 50% of the level looked up to speed. People were still impressed by the art, with some complaining that they would not be able to beat the level due to the sheer amount of objects. This preview also showed the speedbuild art that Knobbel had posted on YouTube, the most impressive being, in my opinion, the "Devourer of Gods". You can find the speedbuild by clicking here.
After this, the entire level went underground for about 4 months. Knobbel later came back and explained the disappearance, confirmed that the level was NOT dead, attributing it to artist block and the save bug. The save bug is caused by the sheer size of the level, meaning that since it's so big, Knobbel struggled with saving the level, due to the chance of GD crashing and not saving the level. He then said that he had regained motivation to work with it, before showing some new progress at the 50% mark.
Then, just a month later, the final preview dropped. This again showcased the full level, now getting closer to fully decorated, and the work was elaborated a bit on. At the point of the final preview, the level had a finger-breaking 300 hours of build time and 240.000 objects. I bet Knobbel's mouse felt that. Later, in June, the full level dropped, but was not verified yet. The level stopped at 300000 objects and around 500 hours of work, culminating into one of the most decorated levels in GD history. People was stoked to see the level finished, and Knobbel could focus on polish and design errors, preparing for the verification and eventual release.
And, after almost two years in waiting, God Eater was finally verified by Knobbelboy after god knows how many attempts.(Get it? lmaooooo)
But, given the fact that the community is what it is, the level had a secret way that was quickly discovered, and some YouTubers posted videos of this, which enraged Knobbel to the point where he called out the YouTubers who posted the videos on his server. Given, it's logical to be a bit angry when someone picks on a thing you've spent two years hand-crafting. Not my place to state any opinion on or anything anyways, so. The level is out, and everyone who has the NASA computers that are able to handle the level should go and check it out, at ID 51775692, and give Knobbel a bit of credit for coming through with this enormous project.
The links for the videos are in the spoiler, feel free to check them out.
