Millenials hating on Fortnite and kids doing Fortnite dances in the first step in their our inevitable transformation into the grumpy older generation that hates whatever new trend which kids have and insists that their version was better.
This had to happen sooner or later.

I mean, I don't think it's an EXACT comparison. However, it's not because millennials aren't grumpy about new trends; it's because often it's THEM who creates the trends in the first place, only to hate it once their little siblings get a hold of it. It's too much to enjoy something for your own reasons nowadays; now it can't be TOO popular or else the wrong kind of people will be associated with you and you don't want that.

Speaking of the older generation, let me add on to this.
Although there are some millenials who hate trends and anything and anyone associated with it for whatever reason they have, I don’t think parents explicitly hate Fortnite and trendy challenges or topics and the like. Looking at the bigger picture, when these kids’ll grow old, they’ll have memories of these challenges and trends that they followed which they'll either memorize as “wow, that was a cool time” or “wow, I was really awkward at that age”. I believe that parents are just trying to prevent the latter from happening, as many of these fads might be remembered as just that: fads. Embarrasing moments that everyone ones to ignore, forget, hide under the rug, and move along.
But, don’t misconstrue me; that’s not to say I necessarily agree with the parents’ reasoning for trying to push their kids away from their interests. Every moment, even sour ones, shape people up and make them who they are. Trying to stifle that is futile, since it's bound to happen to everybody at one point. In my eyes, Fortnite dances are basically today's 90s fashion flashes, as odd as it sounds.
