The marketing for GD is absolutely terrible. The trailers for GD were great for the time they came out in, but have become so outdated, to the point where they don't even resemble the game we know today. I think that a big turnoff for some people is they just see the surface level of Geometry Dash in the trailers seen on Steam and the mobile stores. Let's take a look at what I mean.
On the play store, literally the only thing being advertised to new users are 1.0 levels, which is in essence what they get with Geometry Dash Lite (I will get to that in a second) but still does not represent the full game as a whole well at all. On steam it gets a little bit better, but even in the trailer it only goes as far to show Theory of Everything as the first level shown, and the highest update level it shows is a screenshot of the wave from Blast Processing, which is super empty in itself.
Rob should not be advertising these outdated levels at the forefront of the games advertisement. These levels barely even scratch the surface of what the game has become today, which is why I believe that GD is a game that is harder to get into.
If you had never played GD, which would make you want to buy the game more:
This:
Or This:
While Geometry Dash Lite does showcase only older levels, in the Lite version they are the only ones you get to play which makes it a little more fair. This is why I think that we would need to completely overhaul the earlier levels in the game if we want them to be caught up to speed. We don't even need to necessarily get new levels entirely, as long as we could redecorate them well in a way that represents the game in it's current state. Heck, just import some good 2* levels from the community, because anything would be better than what we have now. Players when they download the lite version have no real understanding of the full game from playing the Lite version, and it comes across as a slightly different version of the impossible game which has been around for so long at this point, and is nothing exciting.
Do I think Rob will ever get around to actually doing this? Of course not, but I do think it is important to discuss these issues.
