This has nothing to do with the trigger. The trigger's effect doesn't last that long and is nowhere near that clear. Also, the problem doesn't occur with the ship, and it would if it were any sort of trigger. It seems like the problem is your texture pack. If you got the texture pack from someone else, this is likely the case. You will either have to edit your files to change it, see if changing your selected trail changes it, or even get an entirely new texture pack altogether.
