Recently I've been having a problem with this site that I don't have with any other website. It seems that, after a random amount of time, the forums will spontaneously go to a pop-up ad site. This is very annoying as I get stupid things popping up in the middle of playing GD when I leave the forums open (I almost always do) and then a voice pops up. It's also worrying because now I'm a little concerned about viruses that the ads might give me. Is there any way to stop this? Here's an example of one. You can't see it in this but to get the idea of what kind of ads they are here:

Every now and then, I just get redirected to some "your computer has a virus" website, often without even interacting with anything.
No idea what could be causing them, though.

Well if you're on a computer and look at the very left of the search bar, i think it says "not secure". This may have something to do with that.

No idea what could be causing them, though. well that’s interesting that I’m not the only person but I’ve only been having this problem in the last month and it did not happen before. Did some policy change or something with Proboards? |

No idea what could be causing them, though. well that’s interesting that I’m not the only person but I’ve only been having this problem in the last month and it did not happen before. Did some policy change or something with Proboards? I don't believe it changed recently. Part of me also wants to believe other people are causing this (like persistent hackers, or maybe greedy advertisers), but tbh I don't really think that those are it. |

Did you install an adblocker? I did when I got transported to a website on a computer that said that the computer had a virus, which forced it into full screen, and everytime you pressed ESC to escape full screen, it would immediately go back, making you stuck, either making you have to download the “virus protection program” or forcing you to have to turn off the computer and turn it back on. It was annoying.
Use an ADBLOCKER

It was annoying. Really? I just closed the tab, and it always worked fine. Maybe I'd get it again after a while, but it always worked at least for the moment. You couldn’t close the tab. This ad forced your screen into fullscreen, which cropped out the search bar and any way to close out of it, and as I said before, pressing ESC would cause the ad to force you back in in less than a millisecond. IDK why I got the ad but it really pissed me off. |

Are you using Chrome with extensions? Sometimes extensions create ads in your browser as a way to get revenue, and they can start doing this without any warning. I would try turning off all your extensions to see if one of them is causing it, and if it is, turning them off one at a time to pinpoint it. I had this happen to me once where it would replace random words with hyperlinks.

I would recommend going to support.proboards.com/ with your issue. I think I've had this same issue as well a couple of times, but it hasn't happened in a week or two. |
