Art is becoming increasingly popular in levels these days, but there's one major concern: because of the massive amounts of objects that they can use, they take a serious toll on framerate. My suggestion? Add a feature in the editor, like an "art" button. Using this button, you can designate a grouping of objects as "art," and this makes it so that all the objects are rendered as one. I'm not entirely sure how objects are rendered in GD, but I know for sure that this would decrease the lag caused by art. Since they are treated as one object, they would all have to be on the same layer and part of the same groups.
Even if it means that the level takes longer to load, I think this would be worth it. It would free creators to not worry about using more objects in their art, and it would increase the enjoyability of the level on all platforms.
Thoughts?

Isn't this the exact same thing as linking objects, which you can already do?

i had this idea a year ago, and i think its great. also, when it is set to different opacities it should fade as one object without overlays

How about just a "flatten" button, which would turn selected objects into one object?

This is REALLY good. You could even select the whole level and make it all render as one object, then lag DISAPPEARS. Just a long time to load it and BOOM no lag.

Yeah, but then you couldn’t have any moving objects or color changes Yes I was thinking about that but didn't put it in the comment. But ASSUMING you don't have any moving objects, and no color changing... you could do it. Just make it look twice as impressive

Just make it look twice as impressive I actually did say that all the objects would have to be in the same groups. But yeah, art levels generally don’t have lots of movement or color changes, so that might work, given robtop doesn’t put an object count restriction on the flattening

Just have an extra option with link controls that permanently flattens a group of objects (and only if they are all in the same groups). Great idea!
