I've seen this happen quite often, so i'd like to share it with you.
The level editor's unique creative options is good, you're free to do whatever you want and if its possible within the given tools, however i've seen that this happens:
1.- For every update, there will be at least one level that depends of a popular level design of the update such level is. 2.- When a popular creator uses an unknown song, the song will become overused, as long as the level is very succesful and played very often (example NINE CIRCLES) 3.- When the update has been submitted 2-3 months ago, all designs are "Overused" and any level with any similarity to an older one will have a tough way until it manages to get featured or starred. 4.- The exceptions for N°3 are Popular Creators, Youtubers, Shared levels (any level which is uploaded to an popular youtube channel) and Copied/Overused Designs of an Recent Popular Level (the reason why the nine circles design can be called "an infinite loop"). Unnoticed creators are heavily affected by the N°3.

Aparently,to have a featured level, you need to follow some simple steps: 1.Use an overused song 2.The level must not be longer than 70 seconds 3.Use alot of glow deco. 4.Cube,Ball,Ufo,Cube,Wave,Ship,Ufo,Cube. End 5.No fun.
People have the wrong impression that they need to mak levels like the top creators to get their levels featured, instead of coming with something new, innovative. I don't have any level atm but 2.0 will change this. And sometimes i think some top creators belive that they can build the crappiest levels, but rob will still feature them.

I use over used songs not because famous creators use them, but because I like the song

Yeah, using an overused song somehow gets you more downloads than using one no one has used before (which is strange IMO)..

A common thing all creators do alike is to make the "drop" of a song the wave and the ball parts needs to be a ToE2-ish stage (a lot of fake blocks mixed up with the right ones...I used this in one of my WiP levels though >.> ).
Also, big misconception is that you have to make a level a demon for it to actually get featured.
