Here is my formula/scale for rating levels: (O)*S + G + D - P (O = Originality, S = Sync multiplier, G = Gameplay, D = Decor and P = Overused song
Penalty
).
Perfect level: 35
Epic Worthy: 30-35
Feature Worthy: 25-30
Rate Worthy: 20-25
Good, but needs improvement: 17.5-20
Meh: 15-17.5
Literal Trash: 0-15
Now for my level review!
I was lucky to come upon this level in the magic section, so now when I come across this forum post, I can get a good gage on the gameplay without much effort!
Decoration: The effects/deco are pretty good, but I would suggest polishing them more. For example, the lazer-spike effect on the ground spikes in the beginning does not flow well with the rest of the level, and I would suggest either making the bg more dynamic or the rest of the level more smoother. The majority of the level seems like it only has 1 color channel, which screams boring. The first robot part, while having an immensely creative background, has blocks that don't have an outline, which is ugly. 50-52 has bad color. During the 60 percent robot, try not to use that dark of a shade of blue. And at 28-33, why is the bg and block design so empty
. Ex. 47 had some cool stuff going on, and it didn't look bad. Try applying that to 28-33.
All right, that's all my horribly critical mind can say. The effects at the 70 cube were a good choice. The 53 wave effect is wonderfully creative. And though the last cube's bg effects were messy, they still looked pretty good
. I give this level's deco a solid
8/10. (I'm super critical, so that's actually a pretty good score tbh
)
Gameplay: It's nothing special, except for the first ball part. Pretty cancerous tbh, especially with the sudden move triggers. Not to mention different vehicle sections drag on forever, including in the drop, which is not good. Still not absolutely boring to play, but I recommend keeping an eye on the gameplay for future levels.
6/10.Sync: On my scale of sync, where 0 is not synced whatsoever and 1.5 is superb, I give this level a
1.25. Nothing amazing, but still good. The song fits well with the level's theme and gameplay, I give you props for that! (An example of where the song doesn't fit with the theme and gameplay would be, say, a hard dubstep song in a travel/modernistic, or a chillstep used in a hardcore Lazerblitz styled level.)
Originality: 2-3 months ago this would have been a fresh, new original level. With Motleyorc and Optical's style being increasingly widespread, however, it's unfortunately nothing too special. Still better/more original than most generic levels, and the effect used at the second robot and the wave were pretty original.
6/10Overused song penalty: N/A
Level's score: 21.5
Ranking: Rate Worthy
Great job on your level, Plygon! I know my rating system is super harsh, and that's because I'm just a really harsh person in general sadly
. (As a rule of thumb, if I rank your level feature-worthy or above, its probably a masterpiece
). Good luck on improving your gameplay and deco in the future, and I look forward to seeing more of your levels in the future!
