I've been trying to beat HeLL by Serponge for months now, and I always record my attempts with the Windows 10 built-in Xbox DVR recorder. My game never lagged when I recorded, even w/o LDM enabled. But around 2 weeks ago, just about every level with a decent amount of detail(Sidestep, HeLL, etc) lags when I record. I would have to use LDM, but it just looks ugly as hell (no pun intended) to me (not every level, but HeLL in particular). I know I sound petty, but being used to not have to deal with lag in HeLL gave me standards. For the record, I don't quite know for sure whether this is caused by GD itself or my recorder. I've deleted a lot of scrap footage and GD songs I never had to use anymore, but neither worked. If anyone can give me some tips on how to fix this, I'd greatly appreciate it. :-) |

Try using a different program to record. You can look up free ones—without getting a virus—and you might find something.
I doubt the deletion of footage would be the solution. It looks like you just need something new to record with, or a new method you have to change every now and then.
If the new recording device fails to resolve it, try updating whatever program(s) you use(d) to record.

Try messing V-Sync and Smooth Fix functions and see which ones solve the lag the best.
You can also try recording in Windowed mode instead of Fullscreen mode if it does better.
Also, try turning on the Low Detail Mode in the game (not in the level). It removes the particles of objects which could significantly remove most of the lag.
If it still lags too much after doing these steps, then I suggest you might just have to find a different Screen Recorder instead.

I don't know if a PC can do it, but disabling all wireless communications help me a lot when recording. It makes the game consistently lagless, where if I record with airplane mode off it starts lagging at random times. If a PC has some type of airplane mode, I would try it.
