Ok so for some unknown reason, GD crashes every time I leave the app. It also crashes when I put my phone to sleep. My phone is the Pixel 2 XL.

Your phone may have too much storage taken up so the game is unable to store cache data, causing it to reset. Try deleting some custom songs in GD and apps on your phone to free up some space to run the game properly.
