Intro: Hi! No need to worry about the duplicate thread. Not a big deal.Volt-o-Meter System: Unknown (Solo) Level Name: Cubie Creator(s): Scip Level ID: 38417627 Song: Wheres My Gameboy? (Save The Princess) by Mattashi Song ID: [735288] Requested Difficulty: 2*
Level Version: 1 Review Version: 1
Simplified System: U -> S -> F -> E, or reverse alphabetical order. I manually decide which board this level should go in. It's not determined by the letters. For more information on the exact rating system, go to this page.
This is a brand new type of level I'm reviewing: a game level. I've never done this before, so I need to make a few changes to my system. That's why the system is marked as "Unknown".
Introduction/Story
How good is the introduction of the level? If there's a title card, how well-made is it? How easy is it to understand the controls in the introduction of the game level?
The introduction of this game level is simple and to the point. It starts with simple, but easy to read dialogue that describes what you are supposed to be doing. The only problem I had with it is it's a little bit fast. There's no title card, though. This isn't too much of an issue, though. The way the level presents the controls to you is simple and easy to understand, at least for people who know how 2-player mode works. At the end of the game, the player reunites with their mother. No idea why she's in a cave, she's not even guarded by monsters, but it's still a little emotional. 3
Gameplay and Controls
Are there any bugs or play-testing errors? Is the gameplay fun? Is it original?
The gameplay feels a lot like a nice, easy RPG. However, I did notice some errors. When the player encounters the first enemy, it would be better if when the player attacks, it moves on automatically. This can be done with a Touch and Spawn trigger. Also, when you have to jump the first time, it has to be at the last second, because the course moves really slowly. I think it should be sped up. I noticed a lot of annoying bugs in the game where I can die, even if I successfully attack of jump. This is kind of a drag on the gameplay, and it becomes unenjoyable. The gameplay may be original, but the amount of bugs is a big enough drag to knock the G&C score down to a one. 1
Environment
What is the design of the environment like? Is it creative? Is it cohesive?
The design of the monsters feels really underwhelming, because they could have a lot more added to them. I also thought the design of Milky was weird because it was excessively large for the world. It seemed somewhat unnatural. I like the design of the mushrooms in the Mushroom Forest, though. They're clearly copy-pasted though, so I would like to see more variation in the white spots. I also think the ground could have some more patches of grass, etc. on it with a little less spacing and more variety. The clouds look nice, but they also seem copy-pasted. Something I really like is the black glow. It seems a little less copy-pasted than the mushrooms, and it's used very well. The design of the Crystal Mine is creative and inspiring, but I think the background could use more work there. The mother design is really nice, also. One thing that annoyed me about this level, though, was the layering. It just seemed really untested and kind of weird. There are things to enjoy about the environment, though. 2
Animation
Is the animation fluent? Does it work?
I noticed a couple of flaws with the animation. I think the skull appearing after the monsters get killed could be activated by an Alpha trigger instead of a Toggle trigger. I also thought the movements for the backgrounds could be better. Specifically, slower with less sudden movements, or even no sudden movements. The way Milky moves, though, is actually surprisingly nice and smooth. It's still not great, though. 2
Final Score Decent (Not Starworthy) - This level has some ups in it, but it's got plenty of things that need work. This is one of those levels that can really work if it's updated to be improved, and there's more added to it. I do like it, though.

I agree with your points, but I'm just gonna add a couple of my thoughts for Scip. The gameplay was pretty dull, since you only tap a few times in the level, and it can be buggy, like Joltik said. At 67%, I could never attack normally and the only way to get past was to spam jump and attack a few seconds beforehand. Also, Joltik, I like your system! However, if you ever wanna tweak it, feel free to check how I review these types of levels in this thread: gdforum.freeforums.net/thread/49343/hard-aerial-zdrift-video-included. Review Approved. Moving to Decent. P.S. Feel free to tag me whenever you finish a review, it makes the process way faster. (But if you are reviewing a ton of levels in one day, just tag me once or twice)
