When the Dash Orb was introduced, I thought the concept was very good: an orb that requires holding and releasing at a precise time. However, in almost all levels with Dash Orbs, the "S" Blocks are used to cancel the Dash Orb's effect when it's supposed to end, completely eliminating the releasing element of the orb. Is there a reason for this, or do people just want to make their levels easier?

The S Blocks are usually only used on easy levels, so the player won't have to time the release

Sometimes S blocks are used in levels to prevent the dash orbs from breaking the level, as there can be oversights the creator didn't see that allows the dash orbs to be used to get past extra obstacles which would be its unintended use, so sometimes S blocks mitigate that.
Though I don't see that happening a lot, but some people use it for that anyway.

Without the S blocks it'd be really easy to break some levels which would allow people to find easy secret ways. Take a look at "The Challenge" by RobTop. He added dash orbs in this level probably before the stop blocks were added. Due to this you can easily skip some parts of the level by holding for longer or releasing at a certain point. This block will most likely prevent breaking levels like this.

S blocks prevent gameplay skipping, which was really common in early 2.1. Luckily, not many harder levels do that, and it is typically only easy levels that use it. Also, S blocks don't really defeat the purpose of it, they just stop it.

They are used so timing isn't necessary. To make easy levels not as punishing and hard and fast parts less annoying and more consistent. Also, constant stopping could be a way to hide a User Coin, as the player would instinctively think that they don't need to hold that much, when done right.

Well, not using the S block could make easy levels easier, because generally people (newer and less skilled people most of the time) assume they still have to hold the mouse until the level tells them otherwise but it's generally a "safety net" to stop anyone from breaking the level in other cases. Also, releasing it would break some levels anyways.

"S" blocks are probably to prevent crashes or exploits and accidents. =^.

S blocks prevent the player from skipping parts of the level since they kept holding it down.

While the S block is needed to prevent certain things, I agree that people overuse it. Overusing the S block completely negates the purpose of the dash orb. People just use it because they don't want to have to design their levels around it, which is lazy.

I agree that this is their purpose, however I believe that Dash Orbs should end in some sort of obstacle so that the release has to be timed, instead of a S Block just timing it for you. The S Blocks should be used after this obstacle, to prevent skipping it like this, however they shouldn't be the main way for the orb to end. Just clarifying that I don't believe that they shouldn't be used at all.

I can see why they're needed for that sometimes, or in very easy levels where player are probably still getting used to it, but overall I think they're used wrong
