Everyone should only be able to vote for one guy each year.
This could be kinda like Repeater13's user vote, except it actually affects the forums.
Every month, each user gets to vote which user would be suitable for mod. If that user wins 2 months in a row, the user would get mod. Though I don't know if the results should be public or not, having a user need to win 2 times in a row would be a great way to get the more active and friendly members a chance to get mod, though it should also be affected by the admins and owners personal opinion, as some people might vote for people that are irresponsible and not suitable for mod, and if that's the case, they wouldn't get mod.
What do you all think about this?

The user votes tend to lean more towards active users than ones that benefit and try to help the forum, which is why the mod picks might seem kind of unexpected.
This also looks like it would create a lot of mods in a relatively short period of time; eventually all the popular users would become mod and there would be no one left to choose from. :/

What do you all think about this? Just something to clear up here, I'm not the only person that works on the vote. GPM, Ian, Acacius, TriTron, Delta and Kirie all work on releasing results and counting them. Anyways, my thoughts are summed up by Will.

Perhaps I should put a note at the top of my first message.

No.
There's actually a lot more to being mod then being active in general, it's based on maturity and ability to judge situations fairly. There's not really anything I can say that Will hasn't already highlighted.
But.. a much better idea would be a custom title for winning a vote twice in a row.

WillFlame Move to rejected? Because no one really likes this. Maybe it would be better if there was a vote for a mod to get demoted at the same time.
