I was on proboards support and they do this thing where they promote members but give them no authority. Some of the include new member, veteran, and my personal favorite: part of the furniture. This is probably going to get rejected, but I thought it was a cool idea.

This is quite similar to the Posting Ranks I think.
Since they were removed because they promoted spam, I guess this one will be a better idea.

What is the OP is trying to say is probably that if you've been in the Forum long enough, then you would earn the Veteran rank I think. As in what requirements get what rank.
Maybe people could also request the Veteran rank if they think they are, and then the staff will decide. |

I don't know, maybe we will add them over time instead of posts, but posts will play a bit of a hand in saying that veteran is "be on the forums for a year", so people who barely post cannot claim the rank.
But I also think people will abuse the rank eg. "I'm a veteran, respect me! This dude's a new member, his opinion is invalid! 'Part of the Furniture' Master RACE!" etc.

Then it will be removed and we will get hated on for removing their rank. It's a good idea, but there is an honor-based system round it. Maybe we should draw out some guidelines if this DOES get implemented. |

This was suggested before and it got rejected. I don't really remember the reasoning behind it but I like this idea, like posting ranks.

Not really, people are smart enough not to do that. Famous people don't really do that, so I hope it doesn't when this gets added too.

We could also make one of those rules be "Begging for a rank will reduce your chances of getting so", and "Bragging about your rank will highly be likely to result in the removal of your rank". |

I still like this idea. there would be some rules, like disrespecting people with your rank results in a high warning, if you lose it and discrespect staff, you get a really high warning, which would for most people ban them, bragging would get warning, and begging means no rank earning for 3 weeks after you start asking for one. and only admins and mods get to decide. with owners. |
