The staff member makes it optional or the user being warned? The user would have a checkbox in personal where he can enable or disable it for all posts But that ruins the whole point, doesn't it?

Guys, thanks for all the suggestions! I also realise now that my suggestion was not a very good one. I liked it.

It might be a good idea so newer people browsing the forum can get a better idea of what's against the rules to post. However the problem is that proboards does not support this functionality directly and there aren't any plugins that currently do this. We could perhaps edit the user's posts directly, but besides that being a lot of work the user could just edit it back if they wanted, and people could create fake warning notes to troll people. You could have the post that was warned to be unrepliable. This isn't possible and type the warning in a way that no one else knows how to do, basically a secret code. Maybe, but it probably won't be long before someone examines the BBcode and figures it out.

No. This would get really embarrassing sometimes and I'm sure some people wouldn't want others to know what they are getting warned on.

This is actually a good idea. I don't think any member is immature enough to publicly make fun of/shame, and newer members will learn what is appropriate to post by learning from others mistakes. But, it will be pretty difficult to implement correctly according to the points Lumpy made.

I like this idea because it could show newer users what not to post.

I like this idea because it could show newer users what not to post. but then you're making an example out of someone. OT:i'd have to say no since it can knock someone's confidence to have their warning be revealed.

Since there have been multiple rejections of the idea by many, moving to rejected.
