It's almost a rule that practicing a demon only in practice mode will take more attempts than practicing with startpos, but even with startpos people practice differently and get different results (ex starting with end and putting startpos earlier each time, starting from beginning, go for runs to end, or just practice each part individually and going for it) the point of this thread is to ask you all what's the method u find easiest and most effective to practice a demon (hard-insane ones mostly)

people usually tell me how low my attempts are when I beat hard demons, so here's what I do: I usually start by doing a practice run and seeing which parts are hard and which parts require memorization, then I usually practice every part in the level with a start pos until I can do each part consistently, at this point I play the actual level, if I keep dying on a specific part I practice it more, if I die far into a hard demon then I practice the part I died on, also don't forget to get the transitions down
hope this helps

Place startpos near the end and place it farther and farther from the end until i get consistent, then i try and beat it

Play very easy demons.
But honestly, when I play something I'm struggling with, I'm using something similar as posted above. I put the start pos close to the end (or on a place where I'm struggling with) and when I get consistent at this part, I'll try to put the start pos a bit away from the end. And so on until we start from the very beginning and go to the end. It's a decent way to practice IMO.
Also practice a lot these parts you're struggling the most. And NEVER underestimate certain parts, especially near the ending. Memorize them well, because it's sometimes really easy to crash close to the end, especially in a fast-paced level.

Since I have no life I usually practice a demon in practice mode a lot (as in go through practice mode 5+ times until I know the whole level.) Once I know the whole level I put 30 minutes of attempts into the level. If I don't beat it then, then I usually get mad and leave or (most of the time) go to a copyable and practice the parts I have troubles with. Sometimes it takes me 2~5 hours to beat one medium~hard demon.

If you specifically want to have low attempts, you can play in the editor without Ignore Damage and that won't count to your attempts.

Attempts don't matter. Just practice the level.
