[THIS IS NOT A RAGE/SALT/HATE/RANT/VENTING THREAD, I'M JUST SUGGESTING SOMETHING]I don't really like how a lot of people are now making news posts of their own. I mean it's good that people want to be a news caster and such, but it is really our job to post and keep people updated. Before I get salt because people think I'm only making this post because "I'm a News Caster and I'm better then everyone else", that is not the point. I just think it gets annoying how there are threads popping up about subjects that I'm literally just about to report on, and if I make my own post, I'm scared of getting flamed for ignoring the other post. The obvious solution would be to move the post, but if I did that, too many people would make posts and the News Caster role would become defunct and pointless. The point of the Newscaster role is to share the community news, not to sit and watch as people try to compete to post first. I don't want it to be like that. What I feel like doing is promoting some of the posters to News Caster/News Helper, but that worries me as it may make many people think that if they beat us to a situation, they will automatically get a News Caster/Helper role, leading to there being too many underexperienced/unsuited News Casters that copy-pasted the news off a different website or too many duplicate threads about the same topic. What I'm proposing is this: - PLEASE PLEASE notify us if you've found something news-worthy! - I might start allowing people to PM us articles to publish, and join together into a weekly news blast. (as in us, I mean the current News Casters, who are @lubzy , @themeaningfulgd and Retired moderator. ) - News posts in places other then Community News should be made a punishable offence (but only a low perc like 5% and thread deleted), unless they relate to you in obvious circumstances (as in you beat something, not "SURV DONE YATAGARASU (and i in gdcommunity so i relates)") - I will go through this with forum staff, but we might start hiring news casters monthly and kicking inactive ones). Thanks for reading this, I hope you understand my situation. I'm not complaining and I imagine I'm going to get a fair bit of hate for this, but I think some of you guys will agree - Ruffy

Yeah, I understand your problem.
If people are going to make community news posts of their own in the general discussion, it kind of makes the Community News section of the forum pointless... we have to tag a bunch of mods so they can move it instead of us creating posts of our own, fearing that we might get trouble for posting a situation that has already been brought up. When other people besides the newscasters post the news, it kind of renders us useless.
So, as Ruffy said, PM us the news you want to be brought up. Maybe we could give you credit for bringing it to our attention if you wanted. The reason the News Caster rank was created was so we could post the community news. Just having people write the articles out themselves and tag us asking if it could be moved is rather annoying if you ask me.

Yeah you're right. It's not fair to get a "job" and other people just take it :/

I understand you're annoyed, but people aren't sharing news just to make your job redundant. Stopping people from sharing their own news isn't right.

That's why we're hiring anyway

Like if robtop said something very important on a stream, I don't think it's right if people don't hear the news in the fastest way possible. You guys can still officially post the news "officially" and credit the person you heard it from.

Yes, but ultimately they will have to hear from one source and if there are two posts one will obviously usurp another :/ and this is community news, which excludes forum news and update news I'm gonna have to think of a solution.

Why not just credit both sources I mean, it could get really confusing sometimes. If Person A PM's you about a news, and 5 minutes later Person B PM's you about the same news, but he didn't know it. (Assuming we have to PM the Newscasters now if we got newsworthy topics.)

If you don't want the newscaster role to be defunct, then just do the best job you can as a news reporter! Gather more data surrounding the event/news, say context so more people understand, even interview people or something idk. Then it won't be useless since the official news posts would be much better quality than the "bootleg" ones that have been moved to this board. (I have nothing against those its just fun to say bootleg)
EDIT: Sorry, I didn't realize this was a necropost when I made it... I could've sworn the date said August. But its a stickied thread and the topic might still be relevant so it shouldn't matter much.

I'm trying to insert as much information as I can at the moment in my news posts but we are not in contact with any famous people to do any interviews with them.
