It depends on how well the level is made. Dear Nostalgists and such are nowhere near good enough

1.0->1.3 levels bad(with a few exceptions like one level by Partition)
1.4-1.7 Nice simple but fun
1.8-Mid1.9 detailed and fun
Late 1.9-early2.0 memory and unfair gameplay effect garbage
Currently: meh, it's starting to go back a bit toward mid 1.9

As someone who spent 3 weeks building a 1.6 level for Zobros' contest I say that I like them, but not as much as I like modern 2.0 levels. Like, a level has to be much higher in quality for the time/age it was built in for me to enjoy it, than for a level built now if that makes sense.

Anyway, explanation: I feel a lot of the new style levels focus way too much on effects and design and as such lose out on gameplay. I don't actually care what a level looks like as long as I can have fun playing it (then again this is coming from someone who finds Conical depression fun and I mean that's an extremely graphically demanding level amritie) But that's besides the point A lot of 2.0 - now levels are very similar in that they usually rely on unfair deaths (See: Every use of moving objects ever), terribad transitions and every now and then I see some copy + paste when there could be an actual level there instead of what I just did 12 seconds ago. Also, I'd like to compare two 1.9 styled levels that were mentioned in this thread previously: COuldn't let go and Dear Nostalgists Couldn't let go: Great visuals, played like a 1.9 level and was generally a fun level. No cheap parts, transitions were smooth. etc. Dear nostalgists: Looked very boring for the most part, gameplay was alright but not great. a few cheap transitions, designed like a 1.9 level but plays like a mid/early 2.0 level (When BS moving blocks and stuff was all the rage.) When a 1.9 level is done well (See Couldn't let go) then it can be really good. But when it's done badly, I.E Dear nostalgists, It's really not good

It depends if the creator is good at pulling it off (Ex: Dear Nostalgists).

If it's styled offer 1.4 or lower, hell no, because when you make an old style level and want it to be featured, guess what, it won't get featured, unless your famous, even if it takes like 10 minute to make it gets featured
tl;dr: only famous people get old style levels get featured

Old Style levels are just a cheap way to get gameplay, and they look garbage. i mean, you could enter them in a layout contest. if you're famous enough to get a rated/featured level, then use your "skills" to make a decent looking level.
