Geometry Dash Game Support FAQ
This was inspired by the questions that keep getting asked a lot in Game Support. Tell me if there is something I something I should add.
I can't backup/save my data. What do I do?
Delete all saved songs, saved levels, and useless created levels and try again. This may reduce the file size of the backup, which would allow it to save.
My account go hacked!
Use this guide by made buy CreepE@creepetheman1234 here. It should work.
I can't see profiles, view the leaderboards, or download levels!
If you connection isn't the problem, it's most likely just Robtop's servers being slow, or they are taken down for maintenance. If they still aren't working for you even though it works for other people, try refreshing your login by going to Settings > Account > More > Refresh Login. This either happens randomly or after you changed your username or password. If you do this and it still doesn't work, your IP might be banned for some reason. Contact RobTop if this is the case.
I lost my Stars/Demobs! What happened?
RobTop sometimes undemobs certain demobs. If you completed them, you will eventually lose the stars you gained from it. If you hacked demobs or used an exploit, you will also lose them. This happens with regular levels, not only demobs.
I lost my data! How do I recover it?
If this happens, the first thing you should do is load in Settings > Account > Load. This should load your data from the last time you saved, if it doesn't work try this guide that P1kachu made here. If that doesn't work, then unfortunately your data is lost.
I hit the object limit. What do I do?
Try to cut down on the objects, use move triggers to reuse blocks or find an exploit. RobTop doesn't mind about object limit exploits.
I can't see myself on the leaderboard/I was banned. How do I get unbanned?
If you have very few stars then you won't show up on the leaderboard. If you hacked stars, you will probably get banned. If you hit a certain number of stars that are prone to hacks, you will get autobanned (such as 10000 stars) If this happens and you are a legit player, try contacting RobTop. Also try to refresh your data.
I downloaded a texture pack but I want the regular version back. What do I do?
Open Steam, go to library, right-click Geometry Dash, click Properties, click Local Files and then click Verify Integrity of Game Cache.
I can't open Geometry Dash! What do I do?
Find (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Geometry Dash) and find "GeometryDash.exe". Right click and go to Properties. Go to Compatibility and press "Run this program for Compatibility for". Press the box and select any of the options below (Windows 95, Windows XP etc.) Open GD. Once you open GD, close it and go back to the Properties window of the file. De-select "Run this program for Compatibility for" and try opening GD. It should work again!
Everything is so laggy! How do I fix this?
Put low detail mode. Or try on another more powerful device. Close any other programs you have running. If on PC, try to put textures on low. Here are some other suggestions:
- Turn off Record
- Turn off Progress Bar
- Load songs to memory
- Turn on Smooth Fix (can make game speed inconsistent)
I changed my name and it isn't showing up! What's happening?
RobTop fixed this, so it should work now. The servers take some time to update, so wait a while first. If after a few weeks it still hasn't changed, try contacting RobTop.
I can't verify my level. Can someone do it for me?
Try to make the level easier, or give it to someone you trust a lot– you would have to give them your account password. If you don't know anyone, you can make a thread in the Verify Requests board and hopefully someone trustworthy will be interested in verifying it.
How do I change my songs? (Steam users)
Tutorial for Windows users:
Geometry Dash crashes when trying to exit the Quests/Daily menu or the basement!
Something corrupts the screen and the game eventually notices, causing the crash. However, the game is still functional and can register your clicks/mouse movement. Click somewhere the game recognizes and the screen will refresh, fixing the problem. The back button in the top left corner is convenient and is almost always there.
If you're crashing after freeing the Demon Guardian, however, the game will have no active areas during some parts of the dialogue (like when it starts smiling). This presents a problem because the screen is unable to refresh. You can bypass this by minimizing the game repeatedly. The game doesn't load while minimized, meaning it won't realize the screen has turned black and so it won't crash. The split seconds you get between the minimizes progresses the dialogue slowly until it fixes itself.
However, the game turns black immediately after the dialogue ends and there is another opportunity to crash there. Failing to refresh the screen in time results in the loss of the three keyholes but the monster still inside (link), rendering the extra content unreachable. I would advise against trying to unlock the cage until RobTop fixes this black screen bug.
What is the move bug, and how do I fix it? (OBSOLETE AS OF 2.1)
The move bug causes nearly all moving objects to change their original position in the opposite direction that the move trigger moves them, in a way that if you play the level and the move trigger is triggered, the objects will move back to their original position (which doesn't fix anything as if you stop playing or playtesting it will just move back to the bugged position).
Steps to fix:
- Select ALL the move triggers in the level that are NOT touch triggered (not sure about spawn triggered) and not the ones that move objects that don't look bugged (most in the part you were last building).
- Copy the move triggers and move them ALL to the very first column in the building field.
- Set their move times to 0 seconds.
- Playtest your level and PAUSE THE PLAYTEST (don't stop it, PAUSE it) after you have passed the first column
- Select your WHOLE ENTIRE LEVEL while playtesting is paused
- Copy your level |
- Delete your level | Do those 3 steps with playtesting paused
- Paste your level |
- Stop playtesting
- Remove the excess move triggers

How do I change my songs? (Steam users)
Tutorial for Windows users:
- Click start, then click documents. Click Local Disk (C:) and then find and click Program Files. (Local Disk (C:) is on the side)
- Once you are in the Program Files folder, click steam, and then in the steam folder, slick steamapps. Click common, Geometry Dash, and then Resources.
- Find the mp3 files called StayInsideMe.mp3 and menuLoop.mp3 and put them in a separate folder, or delete them.
- Next, download an mp3 file of the menu song and the practice mode song. Rename the menu song that you wanna use menuLoop (.mp3) and rename the song you wanna use at your practice mode song StayInsideMe (.mp3).
- Drag those files into the Resources folder. Then, open up your game, and you're done! If it doesn't work, make sure you used valid music files and put the files back into the right place. If that doesn't work then I dont know
