I played a lot of games on my DS somewhat recently and many of them were VERY good: The World Ends with You, Radiant Historia, Professor Layton and the Unwound Future (still need to play Last Spectre sometime), and 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors. Of course after playing 999 I needed to play Virtue's Last Reward and.. that was just another mind-blowing game. I plan on playing ZTD sometime bc I need that closure, no matter how bad the game might be. Apart from that, the Danganronpa series has been one of the most engrossing set of video games I've ever seen. I love the mechanics and although the story is a bit odd at times, I find myself enjoying every bit of it towards the end. Also, maimai is really fun and if you ever find an arcade with one you should give it a try. Note that these are not the games I play most often, nor my favourite games, but just ones that impressed me so much that I think everyone should at least try them once. skip last spectre, its honestly the game with the most lacking story wise and some of the puzzles are total bs in that one, if you get the chance go back and play the lost/curious village, diabolical box and the other games. unwound future was great though, one of the few games to make me cry at its sad ending ;-; Ah, that sucks then. I'm probably still going to play it (Last Spectre) for closure reasons but good to know that I shouldn't keep my expectations too high. I've played through Curious Village and Diabolical Box before, but that was many years ago and I revisited them around the same time as I played Unwound Future just to complete the missing puzzles. Not sure if I'll have the time or motivation to play through them again, considering I still remember a sizable number of the main puzzles and story, but maybe in a few more years. The other games are on platforms that are less accessible to me, so those will probably have to wait for even later.

Hollow Knight has a phenomenal world and art style with a staggering amount of content attached to a $20 price tag. My only gripe is how hard it can be to find lore in comparison to already obtuse games like Dark Souls. Hollow Knight also managed to fill me with this feeling of uneasiness that no game has managed to replicate since my first play through of Dark Souls. It’s a mix of a feeling of not knowing what’s around the corner in tandem with the feeling that everything can and will kill you. I want to explore but the atmosphere is thick and it makes it tense.
What Remains of Edith Finch is an absolutely phenomenal narrative game. Not much that can be said without spoiling the whole game (even though it’s more of a walking simulator than a game) other than some parts hit like a ton of bricks. I’ve replayed the game half a dozen times or so and don’t regret it at all.
Dark Souls 1 sits at the summit of my list of games that I fell in love with. It had a very innovative take on combat and how enemies, healing, checkpoints, and levelling up worked. It was also a world that felt incredible to explore, get knocked down by, and eventually conquer. It’s insane how much progress a new player will likely make over the course of the game, going from being demolished by basic enemies to barely getting touched by bosses on subsequent playthroughs. And, more so than Hollow Knight in my opinion, the soundtrack carries this game and series as a whole. The vast majority of the scores are fantastic and the somber track that caps of the final boss suits the morbid world of the game as well. Mechanically, I prefer Dark Souls 3 since the speed of that game has made it insufferable to go back to the first game with a medium roll. Plus the online in Dark Souls 1 is all but dead and I enjoy invading. However, I have to give the original credit for introducing me to my favourite series by a mile and for how innovative a lot of the game’s mechanics and design choices were that allowed it to stand apart from the crowd (invasions, interconnected semi-linear world, souls system used as currency and experience, etc.)

GTA games (San Andreas and Vice City were the first two I played) since it was like you could do anything in the city. Was a blast that time.

Does Chess count? Cause if so than that. And I know everyone will roll there eyes at this post, but it’s really interesting how many games are possible and all the different variations and factors that go into moves.
For video games, I don’t think the Civilization series has been mentioned yet. Civ is really fun and enjoyable. It’s a game I can always play on a Saturday. Ik there are probs games just like this, but Civilization is a fun strategic game I suggest to anyone.

While by no means the best game of all time, Baba is You breaks every single boundary of what a game can be. It’s incredible what they did to make it an experience so unique.

Just Shapes & Beats.
I'm honestly surprised that no one has suggested JS&B yet, it's pretty short, but it's levels not only have great music, they're in PERFECT sync with the song, it's also very fun and easy to play if you have a controller, if not , it's a bit harder, JS&B also has storyline, which is pretty minor for that game, but still makes you sad near the end, gameplay is also AMAZING. 15/10

While by no means the best game of all time, Baba is You breaks every single boundary of what a game can be. It’s incredible what they did to make it an experience so unique. Was gonna say. I do actually consider this to be my favorite game ever. I guess it's because I had a very specific interest in inventive logic puzzles before entering, but yeah, it blew me away. 226 dandelion gang. Additionally, I'm playing through the Talos Principle for the first time right now, and while flawed and a bit old, it deserves points for having as high expectations of the player as baba did when it comes to secrets. The philosophy is also a nice touch but I haven't seen any endings just yet. I'm fairly impressed. Undertale, as if that hasn't been beaten to death in this thread. GD, because Robtop managed to create a game that is pure condensed fun for a specific group of people, pretty much by accident. Factorio is ridiculous and would undoubtedly be the best game ever if I had more work ethic. 0.17 fixed many of my qualms with the game but I simply don't have the brainpower to invest into a task so large and complex without interruptions. Danganronpa series is just entertaining. Tons of problems but it makes up for it by being a parody of itself all the way through. Anime was balls though. Professor Layton games didn't really stay in my list of favorites, but since they were brought up I should give a nod to Diabolical Box for having really ambitious puzzles as well. Unwound future had a good (and dark) ending for the somewhat cartoonish writing style of the series in general.

Return of the Obra Dinn is the best game I've played in recent memory and certainly one of the most unique games I've ever played. I highly recommend checking it out if you have any sort of interest in detective-style games.
