Hi, I like Geometry Dash on Android a lot, so I decided to purchase Steam version. I did so, but the game won't start. When I click Play, it says "Preparing to launch Geometry Dash" for a split second. Then it says it's running for some seconds, and then it goes back to say it isn't running. The game won't even appear at my task manager. I've tried reinstalling, restarting my laptop, installing vcredist, running in compatibility mode, verifying integrity of game files, but nothing works. Many videos and articles suggest deleting everything at my custom songs folder, but since it's the first time I run it, there's nothing on there. My laptop is a Lenovo ThinkPad T61 with Windows 10. What can I do?

Pretty great level of detail.
Have you made any changes to your Steam account or computer recently?
One bit of advice I have is to create a desktop icon for GD and enter from there. It's worked for me for a similar problem before.

This is a pretty new problem. Try what Joltik said, it’s probably the best solution.
Did you click on any suspicious ads or viruses or anything of the sort recently?

Try using task manager to kill any messenger applications that are open; that includes Discord, Facebook Messenger, or anything that serves as one of those. Restarting and attempting to open the game the day after a restart have worked in the past as well.

i've had a similar issue myself, where my monitor drivers had gone funky, displaying modes such as 61hz and 64hz so check to see if your monitor is doing that, and if it is try reverting the driver.

Hi DubstepJoltik, nope, actually GD was the first game I purchased after downloading Steam, and I hadn't made much changes to my computer when it happened, I normally just browse the Web and play some games. I have a shortcut for GD on my desktop, but neither starting the game with the shortcut or with Steam works. If it helps, right now I have two Steam games (i don't purchase new games very frequently), I initially only had GD and it didn't work, later I purchased the other game and that one works perfectly.

Nope, I usually browse the Web a lot, but I actually never get a single infection, as I remain close to trustful websites and also use an ad blocker and some security software (Proton VPN, AVG antivirus, and Malwarebytes). None of the security software find any threats (Malwarebytes once found some Chrome stuff, but I use Firefox...), and none of them seems to be blocking GD from starting.

There's this problem where Steam doesn't shut down properly, which leaves behind the Bootstrapper Client running but nothing actually happens. Since Steam can't open two instances of itself, trying to open it again attempts to start it up but it kills itself as soon as it realizes another instance is already "running". The solution is to just end the Client in Task Manager and re-open Steam.
However, shutting down your PC (you said you restarted) should also end any ongoing programs, so it should've worked afterward. Still, check if the process is running in Task Manager (maybe you have it set to open at startup or something) and if it is, try ending it and re-opening.

I don't think the problem is in the Steam Client, as the other Steam game I purchased runs perfectly fine. Still I tried everything you said here. Shutting down my PC didn't solve the problem, Steam disappears from the Task Manager when I close it, and killing it while it's open and then reopening Steam caused it to look for updates, then start, and the problem didn't solve. If it somehow helps, actually I think Steam opens at startup, because everytime I turn on my PC, a box saying Steam is updating appears.

One user on the Steam forums said that you can locate Geometry Dash in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam|steamapps\common\Geometry Dash, and right click the .exe application to select "Properties". Proceed to the "Compatibility" tab and check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select the option that says "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)". Other uses are saying this is a fix, try doing this and see if it resolves the issue. If it doesn't, I'll try my best to find another workaround for this.

I have the exact same problem. I've tried pretty much the same things as you but they didn't work. If you find a solution for this, then it would probably work for me too.

Have you tried uninstalling the game and re-installing it? It probably won't work, but there's literally no harm in trying it.
If that doesn't work, try to open it from Program files or something.
