Honestly the best you could get rn is using a mouse, trackpad is really bad for osu for most. What exactly are the problems you have with it?

Keep playing easy maps, I had a lot of trouble at the beginning too. Don't worry about trying to do well on harder maps, just focus on developing your technique with accuracy and timing.

trackpad is honestly the worst control for that game. it has a lot of latency is isnt made for gaming. you should get a mouse at least, there are a lot of cheap ones out there that can do the job.

BTW I am doing fine with the trackpad, its actually really sensitive and works for me, I've never liked mouses anyway.

I haven't played Osu in like 6 months (not planning to go back onto it) but I suppose I've got some tips that I've picked up along the way:
1) I normally use a Wacom tablet for Osu, I mean it's probably the best equipment for the game but I'm guessing you don't want to spend like £80 [$100~] at least for one. Honestly, if £5 [$6.50~] is too much to ask for your parents I'd consider doing some chores around the house if that'll earn you any money. Trackpads for a game like Osu is a no-no.
2) If you have a good ear, you may be able to hear that the circles time well with the BPM of the song, especially for the easy levels. The circles are always in a rhythm so keep hearing out those beats well.
3) Do easy levels first: it's tempting to start the game and play the insane maps but trust me: you'll get no-where in them. Build up your skill by giving yourself appropriate levels to play until you feel comfortable giving the harder levels a shot.

(I have over 300 dollars in cash in my drawer. and Im doing fine with it, I feel really comfortable. my fingers never sweat like they do on GD...) 2) If you have a good ear, you may be able to hear that the circles time well with the BPM of the song, especially for the easy levels. The circles are always in a rhythm so keep hearing out those beats well. (true, i am a musician so I will keep that in mind) 3) Do easy levels first: it's tempting to start the game and play the insane maps but trust me: you'll get no-where in them. Build up your skill by giving yourself appropriate levels to play until you feel comfortable giving the harder levels a shot. (I failed at the easiest level and got a D in the tutorial)

I don't play Osu, but I hope I could help.
First is, you must be used to using the trackpad, which is knowing how to control it accurately, precisely where you want the cursor to go. It is very important that you are comfortable with whatever you use whenever you play. Adjust the sensitivity of your trackpad to the point where it is the most comfortable it is to use it. Now, whenever you play, don't let go of your finger in the trackpad, just let it keep on touching the trackpad and just slide your finger around it.
For the other hand, if you feel like using only one key seems a bit difficult, try using two keys. Put your hand on the keys "Z" and "X". Try to make your hand relaxed as well.
Next, you must know how to play the game, and also by knowing some tricks and stuff that can make playing much easier.
The circles are actually in rhythm of the song, so just listen to the song and you'll know when exactly to click. And also, pay attention to the rings around the circles as well, you must wait until the ring is completely inside the circle until you can click on it.
You can also look closely at where the arrows are pointing:
This can help you with knowing where to click next.
For sliders, you don't really need to catch up with the ball. Once you start holding the slider, you'll see a ring appearing around the ball.
This ring is the "safe" place you could go. So you only have to make sure you stay inside that ring.
And finally, for spinners. Its just really easy, just move your finger and circle it around the center of the spinner. Try to make the circles as small as possible, as close as possible to the center, as its much easier.
If you're having trouble with spinning the spinner with one direction, lets say you always spin it Clockiwse. Try the other direction instead. It might turn out that spinning it in the Counter-clockwise direction is a lot easier than spinning it Clockwise.

I use the trackpad and keyboard in my laptop and I get like A in 4-5 star maps. I find it easier using trackpad and harder in a mouse cuz my hands get sweaty easily.
I haven't played osu! for 2 months because of driver issues in my laptop so here's some tips: 1. If you're into it, try getting a mouse, not a generic one. An easy combo you can do is keyboard and mouse [pressing Z while moving the cursor using the mouse] 2. If you're allowed to / have the sufficient money [this is OPTIONAL.] Try getting a graphic tablet, most pro players use it. Again it's optional. 3. Don't rush on sliders, just carefully follow the circle. 4. Also don't get nervous. It causes you to choke and lose your combo, lose track of the rhythm and fail. 5. I recommend starting in 2-3 star maps if you're a beginner, after getting like 30pp, advance to 4-5 star then try to NoFail mod maps with 6 stars and higher so you can practice. 6. Use the mods, they aren't there for nothing. You could use NoFail if you fail alot in a map and Less Zoom so you can practice the rhythm. 7. If you have shaky hands, just rest it time to time. It's hard to play osu! with them. 8. Listen carefully to the music, don't bother looking on your score, rank and combo streak, it'll just break your focus and choke.

also the tablet thing won't financially help you, the cheapest one out there is like $50. use it if you want to draw digitally as well. sometimes people are better at mouse in osu than a tablet. similar to phone vs. pc control in geometry dash

play more just kidding here are some tips 1. look at the individual circles, not the approach circles (those things that get closer to the circle). this will improve your reading a bunch, and make you improve real quick 2. notice the approach rate, or ar, of the maps. you can find them above the leaderboards of the map. try noticing which ars you are comfortable in and try to work your way up from there slowly. 3. before going up a star level, be sure you can fc or get high combos on the previous star level (fc 3* before going to 4*) 4. acc is important for ranking up, so try listening closely to the music and train your finger control so you wont go too fast or too slow. 5. play maps all the way through even if you shitmiss so you you can be more consistent and can fc maps in few tries 6. only retry if you don't know how a pattern works. good luck in becoming an osu!rhythm champion

Use the mods, they aren't there for nothing. You could use NoFail if you fail alot in a map and Less Zoom so you can practice the rhythm. You should get like 500pp before attempting 4* maps, and way more for 6*. If you can't pass a map after many attempts then give up, no-fail won't really help for practicing the level (same for half-time and EZ), it just ensures you'll pass it. Also for Nightshimmer: 1 - You just started playing so don't expect much, everyone sucked on their first day 2 - Use the trackpad/mouse/tablet or wathever only for aiming the circles, for taping them use the keyboard (for default you can use Z and X) 3 - Play the easiest levels you find and try to get an S on them (Don't go for SS, a normal S with +97% accuracy is enough) 5 - Once you start getting +97% accuracy plays consistently, go for maps that are 1* adove 6 - Once you get to 3-4* maps, alternating on streams will be almost necessary, so learn how to7 - Play maps that have a similar/same AR ( this thing), otherwise your accuracy will be inconsistent (IE.: usually at 3* there will be maps with AR7 or 8, either play the ones with AR7 or the ones with AR8, not both at once). 8 - If you want to improve speed/stamina then play high BPM maps and don't take long breaks 9 - osu.ppy.sh/forum/t/18736410 - osu.ppy.sh/forum/t/9961211 - Also what Xidorn said

thanks to you all! I will keep your tips in mind, but I think my main problem is that I still am getting used to controls. but that takes time as always.
