WARNING: MURAL OF TEXT.
I have not actually played much geometry dash lately. I've seen all the sneak peeks and whatnot, and, well....
I don't like it.
I know that sounds pretty rude, considering all the work Robert Topala has put into it, but it's more than that. I fear it's getting too complicated to the point at which the game isn't even going to be fun anymore because everything is far too complicated and beating any level at all will take more effort than it's worth. Just look at the majority (i said MAJORITY) of demon levels that have been coming out lately. Most of the nine circles levels, and stuff like supersonic and final phase are what i'm talking about. It's just too hard.
"Why don't you just git gud ( ?° ?? ?°)( ?° ?? ?°)( ?° ?? ?°)( ?° ?? ?°)"
Not everyone has the time or patience to beat levels. On top of that, a lot of it also depends on the person. Some people are just naturally bad at video games. Admittedly, I fall into that category myself. I feel like there's not much reason to put the effort in to beat these newer levels for, what? a measly 5-10 stars? And you expect me to hit 2,000 stars just for some keyhole ball? Why does everyone like that ball anyway? Is it just to show off, or is there something about it i'm missing? But that's besides the point. Anyways, I have 941 stars, 70 coins, and 11 demons (I think) and that was from over a YEAR of playing the game. (Since May of 2014. It seems longer than it actually is.) And that rate is going to get SLOWER as time goes on, with the scaling difficulty of levels. I don't think i'm going to get better at the game at a high enough rate to even care at that point. I feel the game is going to get to a point where the skill required to actually be decent at the game (relatively) and for it to be fun is going to be WAYYYY to high to even warrant wanting to care enough to achieve that skill! It's been rising fast too. Levels that would have been rated harder 7* back in early 1.8/late 1.7 would probably only get a rating of hard 4/5* today. Possibly even less!
Now, onto custom levels.
IT'S GETTING PRETTY BORING.
Every level is the same. I feel like every single level on the featured level section may as well be made by the same person. It's either overly flashy monocolored-for-the-most-part levels, neat looking but boring for the most part effects levels, and insanely difficult demons. It's like everyone pays so much attention to how shiny the level is, they forget to actually make it fun.
"Why don't you try making a level then *lenny lenny lenny*"
It's too time consuming and difficult for me anyways. Why should I invest all that time and effort into a level no ones going to play anyways?
Trust me, I want to be proven wrong when 2.0 comes out. Geometry dash is a great game that doesn't deserve this kind of fate. But if it doesn't get better i'm probably going to quit.
TL;DR: Read the post, lazy.

Yeah, I've also been frustrated with the way the difficulty of levels have scaled. I used to be able to beat most 7 star levels in around 50 attempts or so, but I can't keep up with the increasing expectations of skill. Now I have trouble beating even some 6 star levels, and the most notable example is that I have over 200 attempts on 'Starship' by Sumsar, and have barely gotten halfway through. And that's only 7 stars. This is why RobTop has refused to make a new difficulty for harder demons, he really doesn't want people to focus on making levels so difficult.
On the fact that every level might have been made by the same person, there are some things to be expected in nearly every level and certain other stereotypes (such as the 'drop' of the song having sped up speed and wave mode). However there are still plenty of different styles of making levels and designs so I have to disagree. Some levels are simplistic, others complex, some straightforward, some with fakes and abnormal obstacles. Monochrome vs. Colorful, Open vs. Compact; there are just so many options.
And that many people forget about gameplay and focus too much on design, I have seen that as well. It is sad how buggy some levels are, but at least there are always some reliable creators who will make fun levels to play like Darnoc, Findexi, Ripplez, and the aspiring Andro3d. I have trouble remembering to make good gameplay when creating myself :p I hope people will use the stuff in 2.0 to advantage and not to detriment...

The ramping of difficulties because of insane demons is stupid. There are 5-star levels that are way too difficult to be worth just 5 stars, all because of stupid demons like Cataclysm and Final Phase raising the difficulty bar to unreachable levels.
Also, I totally agree with you on the fun factor. Most levels just aren't fun to play, and end up being more frustrating than they need to be. This adds on to the difficulty thing.

I agree. I'm getting a little mad because the difficulty of the custom levels these days, i mean, i tooks me 350+ attempts to complete the level called -Taken- by Etzer, for me, it's clearly an 8 stars insane level, but is not (it's "harder").
This fact maybe is not so bad for veteran players like me (1 year playing this game, and counting), but i feel bad for the new players that are getting started in GD. These new players maybe will compare for example "Jumper", a "harder" level, with Taken, also a "Harder level", but these two levels are incredible different each other!!.
I think one of the problems is the amount of "gameplays" (cube, ship, ball, ufo, wave, mini version....and now the robot). People have to learn to play with all of these vehicles, and also each vehicle in 4 different speeds.
And there is the fact that is easier to play on PC than on Android or IOS, so there are levels that are made in PC version, and there are impossible on smartphones (like SuperSonic, Ultimate Phase, UltraSonic....)
I don't know, but this will get more and more difficult if RobTop doesn't do something.

MaZe, you know you don't need to call someone a whiney prick if they have a contrasting opinion as yours. Calm down.
Anyways, I strongly agree with this, I believe Geometry Dash is become more out-of-touch with the beginners, especially with the different difficulty scales from official levels to custom levels, and the many objects that come each update. It seems veteran players can only grasp the true difficulty of Geometry Dash, along with the fact that there aren't many difficulty scales to represent custom levels.
Speaking of custom levels, I also agree that they are just becoming design-based rather than concentrating for gameplay and smoothness, since there are so many options for decorations, people can't get enough of it.

Most people don't seem to realize that it's not RobTop's fault that people are making very hard/ annoying levels. All he's doing is giving us the freedom to make whatever kind of levels we wish- It's the creators that are making levels with annoying game mechanics. On top of that, the good creators will make good levels, and the ones with annoying fakes, traps, etc. will just go unnoticed by both RobTop and the community. In fact, when was the last time we saw a level with a lot of fakes and traps? Not even Cataclysm takes too much advantage of fakes and other methods of causing the character to crash. I personally think we are all overreacting about the difficulty of levels in 2.0, I'm sure creators like Viprin and ZethnicAlpha will use them wisely. I agree about the difficulties of the levels increasing, but it was bound to happen sooner or later, when later updates introduced more advanced features in the level editor which made for harder levels. In this regard, RobTop needs to rate levels more appropriately. Custom levels are getting boring because update 1.9 has been around for such a long time that levels are starting to repeat in pattern. It's getting boring, I agree, but 2.0 is right around the corner so the most we can do is be patient. Also, would you rather have a level editor that's limited or one that offers a lot of freedom? RobTop chose the latter option simply because he wants us to have fun playing the game. Don't forget that the game is just for fun, and online levels are supposed to enhance the experience. When 2.0 comes out, the game will take a turn but for the better. The possibilities will almost be endless, I personally think that everyone is overreacting here...

Nine circles used to be my favourite demon, because you could keep going, and it was accessible, unlike final phase (Music is better than level, so i call it this) and cataclysm where you keep dying at the start. If I had made final phase, but with less decor, it would be rated down down down down down
to infinity

I was just upset at the moment. Reading the post again and I see that his point was with the community making ***** levels, not bashing all of the work Robtop has put into, and to that I can agree with. Robtop is now offering lots of freedom, so people need to let go of the mindset of making a hard level instead of a fun one. Sorry OP. I want to say some other stuff but I see that Gforce already has me covered ( ?° ?? ?°)

I wanted to make demon levels but when I made one,I realised I want to make fun levels that have decoration and are easy (a challenge but not insane)

The game isn't getting that much harder, sure things take more effort, but its just the designs making it hard to focus, if you replace every block in a featured level and replace it with a basic block and remove all decorations the levels gonna look easier because its easier to concentrate. This is the fault of the people for making all these high speed, detail spamming creators who make levels (not saying its a bad thing).

Yeah, I'm getting annoyed with the difficulty, too. It's gotten to a point where I'm thinking about just quitting because every level is too hard and I'm not getting any better.

Solution: Don't play hard levels :DDDDD Ok in all seriousness, it isn't RobTop's fault that the difficulty has been raised. Don't get mad at him for it. And the game won't be boring anymore once Update 2.0 comes, I guarantee that

I repeat, why am I the only one who's happy that people are making hard levels? D:
