Hey everyone, Deltablu here.
Recently, I did an interview with Krazyman50, one of the most significant figures in the Geometry Dash community.
Krazyman50 is best known for:
The Interview
Deltablu
Here with us today is Krazyman50, one of the most well-known and significant figures in the Geometry Dash community.
Now, what would you prefer I refer to you as?
Krazyman50
Krazy is fine.
Deltablu
Alright, Krazy it is.
So today, I have a multitude of questions lined up for you, the first one concerning your verification of the level Quantum Processing. Tell me, how exactly did the verification of this level get handed to you?
Krazyman50
When Riot was planning to retire from GD, he asked me if I could do him the favor of verifying it
Deltablu
So, Aurorus was never the official verifier, was he?
Krazyman50
I don't really know, I didn't really pay too much attention to the level in the time between Riot stopping playing it and him handing it off to me
Deltablu
I see, how is the verification coming along for you so far? The level itself looks annoying from first glance, but I'm sure you have deeper insight seeing as you are the current verifier.
Krazyman50
I've halted my work on verifying it to focus more on Black Blizzard for now, but I have 51% on it and will most likely go back to it when Black Blizzard's out
Deltablu
As of right now, the community seems to believe that this new level you mentioned, Black Blizzard, is harder than all the rest of your published levels. Do you think this to be true as well?
Krazyman50
I've said a number of times that I wanted it to be my hardest level, but I've made no promises, and it'll probably end up nerfed at least a little, so I don't think people should be raising their expectations this early.
Deltablu
When do you think you will verify Black Blizzard? Judging by the fact that you referred to the level as "early", I'm guessing that you don't expect it will be published very soon, not in its current state anyways.
Krazyman50
I never, ever estimate how long verifIcation will take, because every time I have, I've been wrong, so I'll just say as far as we know, never
Deltablu
That's a good idea. In the past, when you have predicted verification dates, has the community ever prodded you with questions on the verification status of a level as the date you predicted got closer?
Krazyman50
Not really; when I have predicted verification dates they were very vague--If anything, I've only been bothered about levels not being played/verified in general more so than taking too long to verify a level.
Deltablu
Such as your buffed version of High Life by Migueword, Low Death? In my opinion, some of the community interrogated you way too much about that level.
Krazyman50
Yes, that level was only made as a joke as a sort of push toward Migueword to work on Unarmed back when he was meant to decorate it entirely, and it ended up as some some huge phenomenon to many as if it was a serious project, especially due to people like Sea1997 promoting it constantly as if it's my claim to fame; the same is unfortunately starting to happen to Black Blizzard, but I don't really mind it as much since it's not a joke level, but it's irritating regardless that people generally cling to one level so much.
Deltablu
I can see how that would be irritating, especially considering that it was intended as a joke level.
To go back to Black Blizzard, how are you liking the level overall?
Krazyman50
I'm very proud of it. I started creating it with the backbone being to correct every mistake I made in the creation of levels like Lit Fuse and Falling Up, such as my inability to conserve objects and lack of focus on block design. I've tried to focus a lot more this time on every aspect of it and I think it'll be my best level for sure.
Deltablu
Of course, anybody would be proud of having a level considered better than Lit Fuse and Falling Up in every aspect. The gameplay of the level itself looks extremely hard to catch on to, and the timings seem to require absolute precision. A lot of people notice that this is a trend throughout some of your levels, and I interpret it as a the notion that you want to challenge yourself in every way possible when it comes to Geometry Dash. Is that correct?
Krazyman50
While it is true for this level in particular, I don't actually intend to challenge myself too much with every one of my levels, it's just that the level of skill I'm used to for a demon is pretty high. My main focus when it comes to gameplay is really to make sure it fits the music chosen, and that it's at least somewhat new to the people that try it--probably why it often gives people trouble, since they're not used to it.
Deltablu
Now that you mention it, I do notice that your gameplay tends to sync extremely well, like in Heartbeat, Falling Up, and Lit Fuse.
Krazyman50
I think that's a habit I gained from playing and creating in Soundodger+ so much. Often you're only able to work with a few different bullets and colors, and the game completely relies on its synchronization with the music, so it only makes sense I pay so much attention to it.
Deltablu
Wow, thats an interesting correlation. It makes sense too, I had never thought about it that way.
If you don't mind, I'd like to digress from the topic of verification to your overall Geometry Dash experience.
Krazyman50
Not at all.
Deltablu
Sort of a cliche question (nevertheless it intrigues me), when and why did you start playing Geometry Dash?
Krazyman50
I think it was when I got some money on Easter of 2015, and a few friends of mine had been playing it (Furret and Seth4564 in particular) and talking about it a lot, so I decided I'd give it a shot. I streamed a few different games back then to a really small audience which was usually just my friends, and so I of course ended up streaming this game as well, and I ended up getting a surprisingly high amount of viewers compared to my usual for back then, so it gave me reason to keep on doing so.
Deltablu
Did you start playing on mobile, or on steam?
Krazyman50
Steam, though I also ended up getting the Lite and later full mobile version within a few days to work on my progress in the main game when away from my PC.
Deltablu
When you started playing, could you have ever predicted that you would gain the skill you have today?
Krazyman50
Definitely not. Watching people like Creepy Dash, Cyclic, Riot, Sandstorm, and others simply amazed me back then. That being said, I was a bit fueled by AleXPain24 to try to get better at the game since I always felt like I was better than him at Soundodger+, which might have been one of the reasons I kept trying to get better. Not in any overly competitive way, of course, just one of those inner self goals I'd set back then.
Deltablu
What do you think was the turning point of your Geometry Dash career?
Krazyman50
Being completely honest, I have no idea. It really seemed to be more gradual as opposed to having a specific turning point. A few big moments might've when I beat Windy Landscape (which was hanging by a thread on the list back then), Riot's shoutout, certain popular players playing Rearmed, and getting into GS. I feel there were a lot more significant moments, but they all really just add up rather than spike as individual pillars of my notoriety, I feel.
Deltablu
Sea1997 mentioned that you made a jump from Problematic to Nine Circles over a short amount of time. Do you believe that this showcased your skill and true potential to become an excellent player?
Krazyman50
I'm not so sure about that, I particularly remember struggling a ton on Nine circles at the time, to a point where I physically bled a little. It was more persistence than skill.
Deltablu
Your persistence seems to be one of your dominant features. Weren't you the one who advocated the disregarding of attempt count?
Krazyman50
I don't think that was me, but I never really cared that much about attempts after I started beating harder and harder levels, since I felt less significance in comparing myself to others (like what I said about Alex) and more so in the accomplishment itself. I still show my attempts at the end of every video just out of habit without even reading the numbers.
Deltablu
I try to disregard attempt count too, I feel that some use it as too much of a judging factor when it comes to skill.
Retrogressing, you mentioned your acceptance into GeoStorm
To this day, you are still a member of GeoStorm. What are your overall opinions on the clan?
Krazyman50
It's a lot nicer than people have made it out to be before. Everyone there are good friends with each other and it's nice to just hang out in like any other group chat. As of now that's basically all it is anyway, just a group chat of Michigun and friends, and it's pretty chill.
Every once in a while I'll invite a few of them to join a random stream or something too, and it's pretty entertaining to see someone light up when they see us there. A little irrelevant but it's an example I guess.
Deltablu
I remember when you, Michigun, and Viprin showed up on one of your streams. I have to say, it was interesting to see so many of you guys in one Twitch chat.
I'm friends with two of the staff: Ryder and Stardust. How well do you think GeoStorm's staff does its job?
Krazyman50
GeoStorm's staff have a job?
Deltablu
Well, moderating GeoStorm as a whole is what I'm referring to
Krazyman50
For the most part it doesn't really need much moderation, so I guess they do. I can remember getting kicked for a few minutes for blowing into the mic in a call once, but that's all I can remember of it. Usually we're just chilling out or memeing out.
Deltablu
Wow, that's surprisingly similar to how my clan acts as well (leaning more towards the "memeing out" part).
To this day, multiple people have called Geometry Dash out for becoming more boring as it progresses. Do you think of it this way?
Krazyman50
I think those people have just played it too long, and I don't know what they were expecting to happen. I'm getting bored of it too, but everyone gets bored of every game they play eventually. It's just a natural part of gaming. If you think about it, every other game you've played before Geometry Dash that you're not playing anymore got boring to you, and since most people in this case have primarily played Geometry Dash for hours on end every day of every week, it's actually pretty impressive that it can hold one's attention for so long.
Deltablu
You do still enjoy playing the game, don't you? After all, I'm not sure Black Blizzard would exist if you didn't.
Krazyman50
Of course I do, though the feelings associated with completing hard levels have obviously withered now that I'm at such a higher skill level, compared to the rush I felt beating the main game demons. It's completely normal and probably won't sign the end of me playing the game; if anything just a little break. There always comes a point in a game where you just feel like you've done all that you need to and have no reason to try to do anything else; even if there's a flow of custom levels coming in, often they're just not as fulfilling as something else you've done before.
Deltablu
I understand, it makes sense especially for players with such a high skill level.
The final part of the interview will be centered around the Extreme and Insane Demon Records List
You are part of the list editor team for the list, so what are your opinions on the team?
Krazyman50
I hardly ever look into the chat anymore unless a hard level gets verified or needs repositioning, really. I think they do their job well enough, I personally don't see a reason to make sure the entire list is perfect, since in the end it's all subjective. If it was necessary we could calculate the objective difficulty of every level to rank it properly by counting every single timing and tight space or something, but we don't do that, so there's no reason to be so upset if one level isn't over another either. It's all for the sake of acknowledgement, and it's dished out evenly regardless of the order. As long as the team doesn't do anything opaquely stupid similar to the April Fools joke list, I don't think there are any problems.
Deltablu
Do you think they receive the credit they deserve from the community?
Krazyman50
If I'm being perfectly honest, they don't need that much credit for compiling a list, though I like the effort that's gone into it. If anything, though, they certainly get too much discredit from what I've seen in the discussion of it.
Deltablu
I agree, the discredit they get is considerably excessive. About the demon list itself, do you think that all of the levels are in the place that fits them best?
Krazyman50
I don't really know. As I said, it's all subjective, and I'm horrible at gauging the difficulty between levels, which is why I try to stay suppressed about the difficulty of levels that I have yet to release. I think as long as the super hard ones are at the top and the less hard ones are at the bottom it's fair enough.
Deltablu
The most simplistic judgement is sometimes the best, after all.
Thank you for being here today!
I appreciate it greatly!
This interview taught me things about Krazy that I had never even thought about before. For example, I had never noticed the possible correlation between his frequent playing of Soundodger and his well-synced Geometry Dash gameplay. I also never realized that GeoStorm was a place similar to various other clans in the Geometry Dash community. Once again, thank you KrmaL for taking the time to do this with me!
