Theres a lot of Russian geometry dash players that use steam, including dolphy. This could negatively effect geometry dash. This is not a political thread. I personally don’t want steam to do this but there a private company and they have the right  |

doesn't seem like this would accomplish much tbh. banning their international sports teams would put pressure on their government because the russian public does derive a good deal of national pride from sports. but they don't really care much about competitive gaming. seems like a waste of effort to me.

We need to punish the Russians until they stop ceasing all out war on the Ukraine. Not all Russians are in support of the war, so it would be rather xenophobic in a way to do this. Even if it wasn't, people will remember what happened, and a country's history often comes back to bite it in ways it did not perceive at the time. |

Yeah I’m going to have to agree with Jayflight there, not all Russians support the war, some of them think their leader is going crazy. I feel like using “punish the Russians” isn’t a good thing to say. If your world leader was doing some crazy bad stuff, I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t feel nice if everyone was saying “punish everyone in your country” even though some people in your country had nothing to do with what your country’s leader is doing. I feel like that term shouldn’t even be used as a synecdoche. There are some kids in Russia who probably play games on steam to help with mental health. But they keep getting attacked all because they are Russian. They didn’t start a war, they just live in a certain part of the world, and because of that they are going to get attacked whenever they log into a game. I feel like this is racism on many levels. It kinda is racism. No I don’t support what Putin is doing, but I don’t think we should attack every single Russian person because of what their world leader is doing. |

I understand that they mostly don't support the war but maybe they will begin to hate Putin for causing this war in the first place. I doubt it ok look dude, I don't claim to be any sort of foreign policy master, I'm just a dumbfuck who plays a 2d square game and so are you. just because you can write in giant text and you can copy and paste irrelevant war strategy quotes doesn't make you an expert on diplomacy. global politics is a very complicated field and it isn't always as black and white as "make the russian people angry and then putin will withdraw his troops", and even if it was, banning russia from steam would have basically no effect on it, as much as I might wish otherwise. |
