I posted this on Reddit a few days back and thought people may appreciate it here too! If you're unfamiliar with buffering, it means holding down an input without performing a direct action. For instance, if you hold down an input while the cube is falling you won't directly jump, but will rather jump as soon as you hit the ground. As to the reason why the UFO-UFO transition is the only non-applicable transition in the table, it is because the UFO is the only gamemode where buffering isn't available and all inputs directly result in a jump. Therefore you can't buffer into nor out of a UFO-UFO transitions. The rest of the UFO row follow the same principle, but I kept the both buffering and jumping instead of creating a fifth type for simplicity sake. The reason I decided to make this table was when playing a level with a cube to robot transition I was reminded that you cannot hold to jump, but have to buffer your input instead. This made me wonder what the requirements for the other transitions are to see if there is some kind of pattern. As you can see, some transitions are consistent but there are the odd exceptions, which I found quite interesting.

It might just be my lack of recent Geometry Dash playtime showing, but I'm not sure I understand the specifics of the chart. Am I right in saying that the chart shows whether a response (i.e. jump, upwards movement or gravity change) will occur immediately upon passing through a portal, depending on whether you started holding on the ground ("jumping") or started holding in midair ("buffering")? Does buffering become jumping if you land on the ground at least once before passing through the portal? This looks really cool though, there have always been these little intricacies about Geometry Dash that aren't completely consistent.

Am I right in saying that the chart shows whether a response (i.e. jump, upwards movement or gravity change) will occur immediately upon passing through a portal, depending on whether you started holding on the ground ("jumping") or started holding in midair ("buffering")? That is almost exactly right. The action does not always occur immediately, such as a transition into a ball will not yield your gravity changing mid-air. I could have made that more clear in the table but that would have required more legend entries. For instance, a transition from cube to ball will yield a buffered input for the ball (change gravity when you land), and a cube to wave transition will result in an instant input (going up as the wave). Not really sure how I would implement that in the table while keeping it organized and easy to digest, but for the most part it should be intuitive given the gamemode transition Does buffering become jumping if you land on the ground at least once before passing through the portal? Exactly. Moreover, buffering is not possible for some gamemodes where inputs are always immediate, such as the ship, UFO and wave. This has been simplified in the table as being either both buffering and jumping or neither of those two. This looks really cool though, there have always been these little intricacies about Geometry Dash that aren't completely consistent. Thank you and I agree! It sometimes struck me as odd that some transitions which should allow for buffering don't, while others do. The wave to robot transition surprised me the most.

Wait how is cube/robot to UFO buffered? Like the UFO will do a singular hop once it hits the ground?

Wait how is cube/robot to UFO buffered? Like the UFO will do a singular hop once it hits the ground? You have it backwards - you buffer as the cube or robot and do a hop as the UFO.

I'm confused, how do you buffer as the cube/robot if they're the one doing the initial "hop" according to the chart before changing to UFO? I don't think I fully get the scenario. Also I remember it being possible to instantaneously gravity change as long as a you jumped through a ball portal and hit a "ceiling" whilst still holding. Idk if that's the same scenario

If you fall from a platform as a cube/robot and you hold, you're not jumping but buffering. Hopefully that clears it up. Also I remember it being possible to instantaneously gravity change as long as a you jumped through a ball portal and hit a "ceiling" whilst still holding. Idk if that's the same scenario That is true, but this chart doesn't consider the actual platforming, just the transition. Furthermore, that gravity change is the result of buffering and though you can theoretically do it on the same frame as the gamemode transition, it is still done by buffering an input as the ball. In essence you're still buffering to a platform, it just happens to be close-by and an unintended behavior (I assume).
