Is pastiche in GD as legitimate form of artistic expression?

Considering how the so-called generic levels are basically pastiche, I think it is legitimate.
Jokes aside, I think pastiche is totally OK in GD. There are just too many creators and too little deco styles, so it is inevitable for somebody to have a similar idea with another creator. Although technically we can have an infinite number of decoration patterns, they all work based on layering, building from a framework, using certain sets of objects that fit well together, and creating lines, rectangles, circles, etc. It is almost impossible to differentiate creating something on your own and mimicing others.
Plus, even when you try to make a 100% copy of the style, you will need to look into what triggers they use (a common tool to add to modern deco) and what objects they use. (tech decos often use a lot of different objects in a lot of different tabs) This will eventually help creators familiarise with the editor, and aids them into creating something unique.
So yeah, creators should not be afraid to copy.
