Of course the gauntlet levels are better and newer than mappacks. But is it just me or there are many levels that are not fun in terms of gameplay but get into the gauntlet only because of their deco?

RobTop has an awful tendency to think that levels with good deco but bad gp deserve recognition, however I think the opposite. Those levels might deserve a rate, but they are too bad to warrant an epic/feature. Perhaps more decent older levels like Fire Aura, or Hell, just find something enjoyable from 2.1. I’m sure there’s at least enough to cover sub-100 level slots.

Perhaps more decent older levels like Fire Aura, or Hell....... Hell is a 2.0 level with unique design. You can't call it 'old'. But anyways. You just told what I wanted to tell. Most of the 2.1 levels and some 2.0 compromise gameplay. Especially generation retro ,sidestep and crystal essence. .(note that there are exceptional 2.1 like ichor, aquarius which have good gameplay. I am not telling ALL 2.1 levels are bad). I found fire aura way more fun than most of the newer level(the other two 1.9 levels sucked though viz kappaclysm and scarlet surge)

I think the general mass of the gauntlet levels chosen by Robtop are bad (only exception being Sidestep) and the gauntlet levels made specifically by the community for contests are generally alright and have at least some redeemable qualities.

The ones that were contests are good because they actually had to follow a specific theme, but the other ones just seem rushed and aren't very good imo.

Because, the creator contact levels have bad gameplay and hard to sightread and sometimes lag too much. Gameplay matters more than the theme

I was saying Hell as in the phrase lmao

I dislike the gauntlets and I prefer (and enjoy) the map packs. Gauntlets don't really feel as rewarding to beat as the map packs because they just give me some orbs and an icon or color that I'm not going to use while map packs give me a set of free stars, secret coins, and that satisfying coin sound when I click on that button. Map packs are a satisfying memory test that makes me feel good when I beat one of these levels as opposed to the gauntlets which just feel like normal star grinding. Gauntlets aren't inherently bad and they're objectively better than map packs, but I don't really like playing the gauntlets when there's more fun to be had playing the map packs for me. I also don't like bossfights, so that's another point for map packs.

For me the main problem were the early gauntlets, they were often really forgettable as most of the levels didn't even fit the theme very well or just had really boring or awkward gameplay. There were some levels I found alright like Fire Aura, Scarlet Surge or Dark Drop. I found most of the demon gauntlet levels fun too (HeLL was a pain at first but after beating it once rebeating it was really quick).
The contest levels are usually much better though, at least they look like the creators put a lot of effort into them.

The gauntlets are basically newer versions of the map packs, but the levels are better. I still enjoyed levels like Fire Aura and HeLL and Hellgate Menace, and I enjoyed most of the levels.
However some levels are just lacking in deco, and they are really bland/empty/generic. For example, there's Overture, Victim, Pureland and most of the Fire and Bonus Gauntlet, along with a few others. While most of the gauntlet levels are fun to play, some of them are really boring and empty. I also wish that RobTop chose better themed levels to match with the gauntlets, especially with the first few. The levels in the Fire Gauntlet have nothing to do with fire, apart from maybe Magmatic Sanctuary.
Overall I think the gauntlets were fine, but I just think better levels could have been chosen, with better deco and a more fitting theme.
