I'm referring to standard GD levels. Something like Bloodbath or DeCode that we're all familiar with. Of course story-based GD levels can have some emotional value, but what I'm trying to ask is if a level's gameplay, decoration, or atmosphere can resonate with someone so strongly that it invokes an emotional response without the level having so much as a narrative.
I personally think so. Some levels (for example Ocular Miracle) hold emotional value to me because they show a culmination of some of the best creators coming together to make something truly impressive, and to me they are a better representation of what the game can be than most other levels.

I'd agree! I think a good example would be Idols, since the song and the level represent many aspects of the game/popular culture coming together, especially the last part of the level.

I think they can. There's two levels in the game that got me close to tears. So I guess some levels can invoke an emotional response that isn't rage.

I think they can have an emotional value attached to them. I can't say that any levels have brought me to a deeply emotional state, but levels have been able to invoke some sort of feeling in me beyond the simple "they're just typical levels."

Aftermath always felt oddly emotional to me because of the song and how it felt like this big end and nostalgic callback to a three level trilogy.
