Yea. Many Extreme Demons are not very unique, sticking to a certain style or tone, unlike easier levels which have a diverse range of themes or tones. Some of them may be just to get attention from it's visibility on the Demonlist.

A lack of, or possible absence, of talent.
Extreme Demons feel so saturated at this point, they no longer feel like community events but more act as a good way to cure a good player's boredom and allows for a platform to be given to talentless hacks who are only in it for the exposure (they may not be but it certainly seems like it). Of course there's exceptions to this, for example talented small creators partnering up with talented players to make a fun Extreme Demon or the occasional themed Demon, especially from Anubis (no they aren't hosted by GS). But I feel at this point, the demand from players forces the lack of diversity right now. Again, they seem to be focused more on the difficulty rather than being a vehicle for a unique level to garner some attention. I mean hell, even getting unique/stand-out glow creators would be an improvement.
I reckon what we need is a balance. We need hard levels that will post enough of a challenge to potential verifies (maybe prioritise smaller players, perhaps unknown players climbing the Demon List leaderboards) that still have that unique factor. Maybe we should use NONG songs more frequently and try avoid using Japanese D'n'B. Maybe we could use IDM like I've been wanting to for months, or Electro-Pop like Para did when using ODESZA or maybe we could use post-rock like that one megacollab using a track from Swans (holy shit we're actually going somewhere with that).

Modernistic would be ok maybe, even by what is considered modernistic today; being 'levelution' all the way through is good in some ways (it wouldn't be too laggy, maybe easier to see the gameplay) but at the same time more design is nicer to show creators' true skill in design and decoration, as long as it doesn't go overboard. As for cartoonish stuff (which happens to be my favorite style ever), there seems to be a mild trend going on where a fair few levels that get rated are a mix of cartoonish and modernistic, which would be fine, but full on cartoonish style wouldn't be too bad, even though it seems that it wouldn't fit an extreme demon or that it's better for it to be simple - if you don't want simple, just give Kips a call.... play Volt if you don't know what I mean The level creation community thrives off of diversity anyway.

Not to be that person, but why are we necroposting Even if it was a necropost, that'd be Asirum, but he actually contributed something to the thread rather than making a useless post.

Wait, this thread is a year old? Only felt like a few months ago that I posted on this thread.
My ideas have changed over time and I feel that Extreme Demons have become much more diverse as well as gameplay becoming more of a priority rather than deco because we have came to the point that so many players are more skillful than the traditional number 1 difficulty of Bloodbath that there are many players who can make well-refined gameplay. Levels such as Prismatic Haze, Speedrun and Anoxysm have came out in the last year with unique decoration and extremely well received gameplay

I would rather have a hell themed extreme demon with a clear gameplay than a modernistic styled one with very messy gameplay because of deco. This is the reason why I dont like woodkid
