This looks fucking sick. RobTop's going to have to find a way to explain it though.

Hahaha, like anyone has ever used a "particle system" before. We're children who play video games, not graphic designers/developers Ah yes XDDD how can I know what "Fade Out" means?? I'm just a dumb kid that plays videoGAEMZ, not a designer programmer hacker lul XDD Dude, chill your testicles lmao. I'm just saying that most people don't know what Accelrad, Acceltan, Additive or Dynamic Rotation are, just to name a few. If you already know what those mean then good for you. Please don't continue to make fun of people like me for being dumb kids that play videoGAY

I hope we'll have a preview window for all the stuff in the editor. For example, if you want to use the move trigger (exponential in) it will show in the preview window a cube doing the motion. Or Rotate (270 *), it will show how the cube is going to rotate around a center point.

You know what? I don't think it's a very good feature. For one, it looks too complicated which means the learning curve is too steep, people will have to memorize what each of the options do to figure out how to get the effect they want, and they are definitely not self explanatory. Once I finally remember what the last option does I will probably have forgotten what the first one does. Secondly it is a pretty niche feature that isn't that useful in a lot of contexts, because particles are an "add-on" to decoration rather than the main, core part. Which means people will overuse it and create lots of lag. It's an OK feature, but I think robtops time would be better spent finishing what he has already developed and finishing the update. Robtop worked hard on it and I appreciate that, but, hard work =/= good end product It's not a different situation to the triggers. Those have many options too, and some help boxes aren't even completed. You have a particle preview on the left, it's a much better learning tool than any guide would be. And about the "niche feature": sure, it might be. But having the option to create custom particles is better than nothing. Lag will always happen, and if people really spam this feature it probably won't look good.

In all seriousness tho, the particle system has the best preview screen out of the features that the editor has. Understanding what any of the sliders do is just a matter of playing "Spot the difference", it's not that hard - some triggers are more complicated than this lmao.
Also, it doesn't hurt to learn a particle system, even as a dumb kid.

Take out the papers and the trash Or you don't get no spendin' cash If you don't scrub that kitchen floor You ain't gonna rock and roll no more Yakety yak (Don't talk back) Yakety yak, yakety yak Yakety yak, yakety yak Yakety yak, yakety yak Yakety yak, yakety yak OK then maybe it's just me that's too stupid to comprehend this feature for intellectuals lmao. It was still a waste of time for robtop to program so many options for a feature that's either a) not going to be used much, or b) going to be overused

It's not really better than nothing because robtop could have spent that time making something that people actually asked for. Lag will always happen, but less with other decorations instead of these particles which have more calculations involved in the graphics. I hope robtop adds this preview feature to other triggers, I agree that that is actually good.

So, while it has some aesthetic appeal, I really wonder how all of those options are going to be transferred effectively to mobile devices (particularly a phone, which is what I play on). With all those things on the interface like the particle options, the preview screen, all the sliders, and customizations, it looks like it would transfer really messily and ineffectively to a smaller screen.

Okay I don't really see how this is so complicated.
Sure, there's a ton of options, but really, most of them are pretty self explanatory and the rest you can screw around with. To be honest, I feel like every single one of these options is necessary as pretty much each one at least makes a significant change to how the particle works. And I think it's for the best too. Just imagine if RobTop left out some of these options. People would be complaining nonstop that there's too few options and it doesn't truly feel like a particle "editor". He even took his time to make sure there's an option to determine how you want the particles to relate to a move trigger. You know if he didn't add that people would be on his ass 24/7. The amount of things you can really do with this thing is incredible, you don't even have to use some of the options if you want as you can edit it right from the preview menu! I think this really shows how much work he's put into this update and that he's making sure that when the update is released it doesn't feel half-finished with a bunch of broken features. Sure there's a ton of options, way more than any other trigger, but that's good! You can actually create your own stuff rather than just pick from an assortment of a few different types of particles.
Just imagine, what if this amount of detail was done on everything in the update? The update would be absolutely incredible! I don't think people should view this as a waste of time or completely useless, since this could show right here how much potential this update really has for us that we are completely unaware of.

Even though it looks pretty sick, I would have preferred it, if he just published the stable 2.2 version, while putting this in 2.3. It's been over 2 years now, and a lot of people have been burnt out of the game, because of lack of content.

I think having a few presets (Lot of very dense particles, a few spread out particles etc.) would do a lot of good for people who don't want to learn how this editor works.

There are many with labels that make no sense to non-game developers. I am a game developer myself, it's something I study at college, yet this feature still confuses me. I don't think you should need all of that knowledge anyway just to add some particles to a Geometry Dash level. Just my take on it I guess. As for the feature, I think it's useful. Might need to be watered down a little though.

If you could know what the thing does by looking at the effects it has on the particle... If only there was an entire screen in the GUI made for that purpose...
