Recently, I purchased Crypt of the Necrodancer on my Switch as it was on sale for AU$6 instead of AU$30. I thought the game looked cool as it was a mix of rhythm and rogue-like. Upon first playing it, I found the heartbeat mechanic very difficult to keep consistent and it really frustrated me. I ended up switching to a character who doesn't use the heartbeat mechanic (the Bard for anyone who's played the game), but I felt bad for choosing him even though I couldn't get far at all even with him. I feel the mechanic should've been more friendly for people who want to learn and get into the game as it really ruins the fun of playing it. It wasn't even worth the $6 in the end.
Overall, if you get frustrated tapping to a constant beat or just don't enjoy rhythm or rogue-likes: stay away from this game. Go buy Celeste or The Messenger or Shovel Knight.

I agree, very good indie games. Topic: I don't really know as I don't buy a lot of games. Before buying, I usually try to check carefully if I'll enjoy playing them. On Steam if you haven't played a game for more than 2 hours (correct me if I'm wrong) you can refund it up to a week after buying it.

Most likely because of the new My Nintendo: Gold Points program where when you purchase a game, depending on its price, you earn so many Gold Points which can be turned into real money.

Just Shapes and Beats is a bad game (for now anyway) and no one can change my mind
Also I tried to play Audiosurf and couldn't figure it out due to outdated websites and convoluted account creation, gave up and never launched it again for some reason.
EDIT: Also Move or Die is literally 90% RNG and only fun for like 4 hours.

Just Shapes and Beats is a bad game (for now anyway) and no one can change my mind I don't necessarily think it's bad, just overpriced for the amount of content it provides. Apparently there's an official editor being in works, so once it comes out I think it will be worth to buy this game.

Hopefully the existence of community levels will change that (and in turn make it more gd-esque). Another big issue I have with the game is that quite a majority of levels are based around remembering what comes next (especially the bossfights) and not actual sightreading. The community levels would likely make the game much more worth because a lot of dev levels are subpar.

I bought this really shitty/buggy game called Unbox like a year and a half ago. It has a cool concept where you play as a box in a world where boxes are basically used as delivery drones, but the game is so buggy and unoptimized that it's practically unplayable.
Also I kinda agree about JS&B tbh, I've played it for a few days and it gets very stale and boring to keep unlocking songs and replaying them over and over for the S rank (doing 10 songs in a playlist is the most boring thing ever jesus). I think it could use a new gamemode, or a level editor too, that's cool. I don't regret buying it though, it introduced me to some awesome new artists and songs like Nitro Fun (Final Boss), Sabrepulse (Close to Me), Danimal Cannon (Long Live the New Fresh), and Tokyo Machine (Hype). The story mode is also kinda eh. Could use some secret areas.
Same thing as above applies to Pokken Tournament, but without anything good.

I usually look into every game I buy, but when I was younger, there were many games that I bought because the cover looked good. Ninjabread Man was one of them.
Also, not really a game, but I bought 3000 diamonds in Pokemon Rumble World, which kind of trivialized the "difficulty" of the game...

On Steam, I bought Cities: Skylines, Scribblenauts Unlimited, Stardew Valley, and VVVVVV but never really got into playing them much.
Outside of Steam, I got Tomodachi Life and only played it for a day and I also tried to get into Pokemon: Omega Ruby but quit after getting lost.

I think the original levels aren't that bad but the new levels they added in the update were pretty subpar. I don't even wanna mention Mortal Kombat, that level was an RNG mess.

A hard to learn mechanic=/= a bad mechanic. Just because you’re bad at something doesn’t mean said thing is bad. I haven’t played the game you’ve mentioned so I can’t speak for it, I just tend to take complaints about something being unforgiving with a grain of salt since being coddled by a game is pretty boring. To use a personal example, I got Dark Souls when it was free with XBox live back in 2014. I sucked at the game. Like badly. Got past the tutorial eventually and made the same mistake that plenty of people made, which is to say I went to the graveyard first and got promptly slaughtered by skeletons. Close to an hour later I found the correct way to go at the start and ended up making another mistake shortly after. See, I chose the master key as my starting gift because I figured it’d be useful. I wasn’t paying attention to what key was used when going through a certain door and wound up finding Havel. Not exactly an enemy you want to be fighting with just barely above starting stats. Needless to say, he kicked my ass for hours since I was awful at dodging, parrying, spacing, and finding time to heal without getting punished. These mechanics aren’t bad and it’s fine that the game throws you into the deep end immediately to learn these mechanics because I eventually got better at all of them and was able to kill Havel eventually. I hit another roadblock later and found that I was in the wrong place after caving and googling what the hell to do but the point still stands, a steep difficulty curve doesn’t make a mechanic bad, it just means you’re bad at it.
OT: Mortal Kombat. Was my first go at a fighting game and it really just wasn’t for me. It’s not a bad game, just not a genre of game that I enjoy. I’m also not good enough at all the finger gymnastics required to pull off complex combos.

I partially regret buying an RPG game called Dragon's Blade. It looked great at the time of purchase - solo dev, not many bugs, decent graphics, all that - until I played it and found that the 'storyline' it had was absolutely pathetic. Starts out with you waking up in a forest town, remembering nothing except boarding a ship; you then have to rescue the town elder's daughter from a cave, which has a portal leading to the next continent, and so on.. just pretty much you running around the world doing rather disconnected quests. Way, way too much grinding in it, and I found that out after spending hours upon hours playing with little advancement in the story.

The most recent one is Just Shapes and Beats I finished the game in 2h, despite the game costing around 17€, and I fogot to refund it in time, and only thought about it the day after it was too late The game isn't bad on its own, but it's very short and not worth its price. I really hope they're gonna add new features.
And more generally, I regret buying all games where I have less hours spent on than the price I paid for it.
