Like last year, thoughts on God of War winning GOTY?
While I thought it was great, I thought it didn't hold a candle to Red Dead and Spiderman. I guess I found the worlds, gameplay, and story at least a bit better in the latter 2.

If more chapters of Deltarune released this year I'm almost certain I'd say that. AAA games are overrated so I suppose Celeste.

If more chapters of Deltarune released this year I'm almost certain I'd say that. AAA games are overrated so I suppose Celeste. What's with you people and your hatred towards AAA games? Can you elaborate why you don't think they deserve this type of awards. Deltarune is a nice experience but far from being goty material. Great soundtrack but boring gameplay and waaaaay too much dialogue. (Every screen contains between 30s-2mins of dialogue) I haven't played Celeste but i've seen it's just a regular platformer with pixel graphics like every indie game ever. |

Of the AAA games I played/watched this year I genuinely don't enjoy them anymore than indies. "[Those specific] AAA games are overrated" is simply my reasoning for WHY I chose Celeste over the rest of those games for GOTY. |

I haven't played any of the nominees other than Celeste and I've seen Into The Breach once before, so I'm definitely not in any position to say what should've won GOTY. But I will say that Celeste's story, gameplay, and even visuals to some extent are incredible and I love that game, but it definitely wasn't perfect (a needed to google a lot of strawberry locations because of how bullshit some of them were, also Mr. Oshiro is literally everything I hate rolled into one person).
Haven't played Red Dead 2, never even heard of God of War before lmao

Celeste was a great game, but RDR2 deserved to win. I dont understand how a dumbed down version of "press X X Triangle to win" beat out RDR2. Honestly i think its just Geoff not trying to lose the good press he has with Sony since Kojima is literally his waifu.

RDR2 i think is the most deserving. A truely great open world experience that rockstar is known for providing. Although people seem to say Celeste is goos but i havent even heard of the game. I guess i better look into that.

I don’t really care that RDR2 didn’t win it. At this point I’m pretty burnt out from open world games. They’ve really been overdone at this point and don’t interest me at all anymore. The only game that came out this year that I really enjoyed was Hollow Knight but it’s 2018 release was for consoles while PC had it back in 2017 so it doesn’t really count.
