Gotta love that forced diversity and on-the-nose female empowerment
This has to be the edition where I recognized the least amount of people (only knew Casey Neistat, Markiplier, Ninja and the animation channels, although I'm glad they're getting represented)
Oh well, at least there wasn't as much cringe as last year. Thoughts?

Honestly I'm just glad TikTok isn't mentioned anywhere
I was also talking with other people and apparently no one knows who these people are. I found that interesting because YouTube had great emphasis on the theme "let's give the people what they want" when they had like nothing people would recognize.

I'm honestly surprised they couldn't even muster the courage to mention the "subscribe to pewdiepie" thing anywhere.
I don't see in any way how this is supposed to accurately represent YouTube.

honestly not awful. while most of the people couldn't be recognized, the ideas were very solid and there were a few genuinely funny jokes. with the right people this could be really really good, but the most recognizable people are all the ones in drama, so they can't be included obViouUSlY

I couldnt believe how self congratulatory this rewind was. It was like Youtube was trying to convince everyone that they are helpful and are influential. like "oh my god we are so progressive", "oh my god we are so funny look at all these memes!", etc etc. Like the part where they listen to comments is the funniest shit, because thats the furthest thing from Youtube's agenda: listening to user feedback.

What even is the point of the rewind lmao?
Especially in a day and age when the upper ranks of YouTube are just another boiling pot of unfunny memes and immature drama

I remember quite a bit of people complaining about the last year's rewind and now I'm actually suprised how giant the dislike ratio is. People seem to REALLY hate it.
Personally I never was a fan of YT Rewind and I never really cared about it because I found it rather boring. This year however is something new, people are questioning YouTube's decisions when they organised this year's rewind. Not really suprised though, from what I saw and heard it sounds much worse than in previous years, lol.

This is a pretty poor glimpse of what Youtube has to offer. There was, like, no recognizable youtubers in this video, and I found myself ridiculously bored. There was an over reliance on Fortnite to be hip and cool, and the memes used were very dry. It also tried to avoid it's criticism by including a female empowerment message, which is a desperate attempt to be praised by some. The only remotely enjoyable parts in my opinion were the animator parts, because the animation from each person was decent. Other than that, a piss-poor video by Youtube that deserves all of it's dislikes. It's like the 7th most disliked video as of right now.

Alright, here's an actual useful post on my thoughts of Youtube rewind. You know something's wrong when your like to dislike ratio is 1;4, especially if it's youtube rewind, something to bring memories and nostalgia to all of youtube. As somebody who has found youtube rewind really great before, I think it's quite the disappointment and a huge shame to youtube. Opening the video, you'd expect somebody notable, somebody who's a YOUTUBER to begin the rewind. This happened for the years until 2016. In 2016 they put... Dwayne Johnson in? In 2017..... a TV show host?? So you'd expect them to get it right this year after making that mistake twice, but no, they put WILL SMITH as the opening AND closing person. Now, I like Will Smith, he's a cool dude, but he is not a youtuber, he doesn't fit youtube rewind at all, let alone having a big role in it. The next huge issue with it is its sound. This was probably the worst thing about it this year. There was talking all the way through it, why can't they let you enjoy a soundtrack of the most popular songs that year that are mixed greatly? I don't even enjoy pop music, but in the 2015 rewind there was a beautifully mixed soundtrack with great transitioning to the next songs, I really enjoyed hearing the music in rewind 2015. In 2018 they completely bombed all enjoyment of music. There is voices in the entire thing, sound effects, it's just annoying! They even fully stop the soundtrack in places for lengths of time! Could they have not mixed the Kpop song with the previous one instead of having a 30 second stop to transition to it? I get that not everybody likes Kpop but if mixed well it can still sound good for the soundtrack. There is ZERO well done transitioning in the thing. Almost all of the songs are brought forth between complete stops of the music. The soundtrack is definitely BY FAR the worst soundtrack of all the rewinds. The campfire scene in the middle of it reeks of wanting to appeal to the minorities. They basically caved in to the SJWs for this one. I know people want to celebrate that it's ok to talk about mental health, I guess that was an ok bit for me, but come on, the rest of it. "I think this year's rewind should celebrate the fierce, fabulous and empowering art of drag." "I want to see all of you be your own kind of beautiful" "Can we also give a moment to Asian representation in entertainment this year? Major strides were made." "Here's to all women in 2018 for finding their voices." "It's nice seeing how women grew and were empowered." "Can we give a moment to working moms? Let's do it!" "And to all the refurgees and anyone looking for a home." I can't say how much this reeks of wanting to appeal to minorities, and boy did it backfire. They want to appeal to the people who yell at them in the media for having too many white males in their videos so they deliberately dedicate an entire section to praising women minorities. Working moms? What about all the great dads out there who work for their families? Why do we need to celebrate Asian fucking representation in entertainment?? Anime has been god tier levels of popular for a long time now, K pop has been incredibly popular for a long time now, and what about NINTENDO? NO NEW STRIDES WERE EVER MADE THIS YEAR IT HAS BEEN THE SAME AND ALL HAS BEEN EQUAL FOR YEARS. People can keep on pretending that we make immense progress as a society every year with every new speech made by a black person or every new song made by an asian but really people, they've been on the same level as everybody else, even being more popular in many cases. They left out a lot of people this time. I barely recognized anybody in this one, and it seems like they put in as many women and people of different races as possible to represent... the 'discriminated' people to make sure that they didn't have too many white males. They left out Shane Dawson, Captainsparklez, Brave Wilderness, GAME THEORY. I get that they want to leave out Pewdiepie cause there was a lot of complaints about him saying the n word on stream (I still don't get why they haven't let go of that really) but come on, everybody else? How can you leave out some of Youtube's most iconic creators? I don't even watch people like Shane Dawson or anything but they represent youtube! Not people that 90% of the viewers won't recognize. The only great thing about people they included this time was they actually represented the animators in it this year. Asian representation being a major stride? Nah, Animation representation being a major stride. The only part that feels like you're watching rewind is in the part after the horrible campfire scene where they actually have a mix, they have it in regular rewind format. They could have done without another fortnite scene cause they already had a whole section in it before though. Overall youtube rewind was terrible this year, the worst of the rewinds. By far. Shame on youtube, "giving the people want they want." I guess it's expected, when we're dealing with this

Guys calm down pewdiepie's chair made it in Seriously though the rewind was bad just because of how much was missed. Pewdiepie vs Tseries, ksi and logan paul boxing match, shane dawson stuff, etc. Instead all we get are fortnite, will smith, and forced SWJ messages. I thinm the dislike ratio speaks for itself honestly.
