title
IMO it's either Galaxy 1 or Odyssey. I haven't played Odyssey though so I can't judge, but it looks really cool and I hope to play it sometime soon.
(also, I don't think I missed a game, but if I did, pls tell me)

My opinion:
1. Odyssey 2. Galaxy 3. Mario 64 4. Galaxy 2 5. Sunshine (Hardly played this one, but I think it's okay here) 6. 3D World 7. 3D Land

I only own Odyssey and 3D Land so I'm gonna have to go with Odyssey. Its super fun and feels very atmospheric. I also love how there's so much to do and how Nintendo used the entire maps and mechanics to place the moons. On top of this, new costumes are always added and you can also challenge yourself by doing the Luigi Balloon Game.

I've played 64 DS, Galaxy 2, 3D Land, and Odyssey, and although I like Galaxy 2 more, I'm gonna have to go with Odyssey simply because the Galaxy controls are absolutely retarded at times.
I do want to play sunshine but I'll wait until I have a Gamecube controller that I can plug into my PC (or maybe even into my Wii owo)

#1 (Best): Galaxy 1 - Fucking gorgeous, plays really well, and it just feels really creative and different for a Mario game. And the whole storybook thing was amazing, and I didn't expect a Mario game to be this sad.
#2: Odyssey - Same as above minus the sad part, but it's WAY too easy and the post-game isn't very good.
#3: Sunshine - Haven't completely played this one, but the cutscenes are long af, so...eh. The gameplay is pretty good, though.
#4: Galaxy 2 - Half of the galaxies are super forgettable, and I don't really like Lubba as a character.
#5: Mario 64 - Looks good for the time it was released in, but it doesn't really hold up completely considering how stupidly difficult some of the levels are and outdated the visuals look.
#6: 3D World - Also super forgettable, but has a large overreliance on powerups and isn't the least bit difficult except for like four individual levels, not to mention it isn't really a cinematic game. It has cutscenes, but the game is clearly trying to have emphasis on difficulty and not story.
#7 (Least Good): 3D Land - I literally don't remember a single thing about this game. It's that forgettable and insignificant.

I am a huge Mario fan, though I haven't played all his games. I will rank the 3D ones I have played however. Btw, these are probably going to be really weird rankings, but this is based on my own enjoyment.
1. Super Mario Galaxy 2 Imo, this had some forgettable galaxies, and Super Mario Galaxy had more memorable levels, but there's something I love about this game. I used to have a blast using Yoshi to infinite flutter to places you weren't supposed to reach, like the top of the Volcano in Yoshi Star Galaxy, or all the way back up to the water sphere in Starshine Beach. I had a blast trying to speed run this game. Yoshi provided lots of fun as well. I remember fondly trying the ultra shortcut on Bowser's Galaxy Generator and I messed up by going near the wall too early, which caused me to get sucked into the gravity of that round glass cylinder galaxy! I was just awe-struck by how broken this game was, and it was broken in all the right ways, kind of like Mario Kart Wii was. I also had a blast collecting the Green Stars as well. Though before I found out about the homing ground pound, I dided about 100 times trying to get that damn 3rd Green Star on the Flipsville Galaxy. Also, fuck Grandmaster Galaxy Perfect Run.
2. Super Mario Galaxy I found this one a little less fun than Super Mario Galaxy 2, but that's mainly because the game was mainly in control in this game, not my and my infinite flutter jumps. This game succeeds in every way it was intended to. Sometimes the controls are a little bit wonky (Fuck Rolling Gizmo Galaxy), but other than that, this game is a platforming masterpiece. There were some very memorable galaxies (Toy Time Galaxy, Freezeflame Galaxy, Battlerock Galaxy, and my personal favorite, the Melty Molten Galaxy), but there were a few forgettable ones (Gold Leaf Galaxy BESIDES Cataquacks in the Sky, Deep Dark Galaxy, and Dreadnought Galaxy). However, there were a lot of very fun stars to get. I remember how it took me about two hours to find that secret star in the Deep Dark Galaxy. I used the cannon and I explored the tops of it and the inside, where you could actually walk around for some reason. The story was pretty good, and the visuals were pretty and colorful. Well worth spending my hours playing when I was younger.
3. Super Mario 64 First off, I'm basing this off the better version: the DS version, which had better graphics, and a few little extra treats (Minigames). This game was a blast. The story was rather unorthodox, but this game was quite revolutionary to the platforming genre. Seeing Mario in 3D for the first time was quite impressive. The game is a little bit tough however. There were some memorable stars (Tick Tock Clock, Big Boo's Haunt) and the gameplay was pretty good. This game, however, took me a lot more time to complete. I don't know why, but I found this game really difficult in comparison to some of the more difficult stars in both Galaxy games. Maybe it wasn't because I was used to having to find the stars myself (yeah, I used MarioWiki to find the green stars in SMG2). The minigames on the DS version were also pretty fly. Loved trying to beat Luigi in Five Card Draw. Loved defending flowers from falling bo-bombs. Loved trying to find Yoshi's head in the middle of a gazillion Wario, Luigi, and Mario heads.
4. Super Mario 3D World The game itself I admit was a little bit lackluster. The story is linear to all the other Mario stories, the visuals were okay, and the levels were pretty good, albeit forgettable, but what made this game so fun was speedrunning it and racing against those little ghosts. I remember I used to create a different mii and switch to it to create a fake "noob" ghost that would randomly start speed running. His name was "Brandon" and I created a ghost on "Back To Hands on Hall" where it was a fake noob ghost, pretty fun times. The speedrunning is what saves this kind of lackluster game from being dead last.
5. Super Mario 3D Land This game is as memorable as the Gold Leaf Galaxy from Galaxy 1. Yeah, not memorable at all.
I haven't played Sunshine or Odyssey unfortunately, and I wish I had. Sunshine looks like a blast, albeit hard to control.

Everyone's talking shit about Super Mario 64 because it's hard and ugly but honestly screw you guys, it's original, intuitive, and a blast to play. All the basic movement and controls are there without any annoying gimmicks which makes for a solid experience without overloading the player with too many strange things at once. And everyone's saying that the graphics are bad, but honestly that doesn't matter at all IMO, no one says that Ocarina of Time is a terrible game just because it looks a little outdated nowadays. I'm not saying that graphics aren't important but when you're judging a game mainly based on the graphics then maybe it's time to look at other aspects of a game like, idk, the gameplay maybe. And if you find that too difficult for your taste then fair enough I guess, I'm not trying to say that your opinion is wrong or whatever, but honestly I don't find it overwhelmingly difficult and is just challenging, in contrast to the other platformers that can be a bit too easy for my taste
The others are still pretty good too, though, especially Galaxy and Galaxy 2.

I haven't played Odyssey but I played Galaxy and it was amazing. Definitely one of my favorite Mario games.
Unpopular opinion but I really don't like Mario 64. I know it was the first 3D Mario game and it was fairly revolutionary back then, but IMO it has a lot of flaws. The graphics didn't date well at all, some levels were odd difficulty spikes AFAIK and the camera was super obnoxious as it could get stuck into some walls while playing and that could throw you off.

Super Mario 64 DS was like the improved original so that's my number 1.
Number 2 is Odyssey, that game is really fun except once you collect all the moons, there's really nothing to do.
Number 3 is 3D Land. I honestly loved this game so much and played it to death.
3D World sucked.
I never liked the Galaxy games because of their god-awful controls and I never played Sunshine.

I cant believe some of you FAKE FANS forgot about Golden Leaf Galaxy. You people disgust me. You're also a fake fan though since you thought it was called Golden Leaf Galaxy even though the actual name is Gold Leaf Galaxy. OT: My favorite 3 Mario game is likely SMG2. While it's very similar to SMG1, the one thing that pushes it higher for me is that after getting 120 stars, instead of having to replay the entire game as Luigi, you get to find the green stars instead. It's a small change in variety that really adds a lot more fun to the game as it allows you to explore some new areas and do some new tricks you never had to do in the first half of the game.

I only ever played 3D Land, so it'll have to be that. Unfortunately I lost it a year ago or so and haven't found it despite numerous searches.

Might be a bit of a necropost but 3D world has been getting a lot of love recently, and for good reason. It honestly has the best level design of ANY 3D Mario game. If you wanna see details, then RelaxAlax has a video talking about it, which I’ll put in a below spoiler. But now addressing my personal opinions... 1. Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Odyssey 2. Galaxy 1 and 2 3. 3D World 4. 64 DS 5. 3D Land 6. 64 Not saying that any of these games are bad though, they’re all excellent. I’ve also played through all these games at least 5 times each, so I’ve got experience. Anyways, for the video.
