I have to like it... That's it Oh and Pianos, nothing can go wrong with pianos Moonlight Sonata Mvt.2 with its horribly out of place tonal shift begs to differ

A hard question to answer, at least for me. In hip-hop/rap I look for something without cussing (my religion and my parents can be thanked for that), has good flow and lyrics, and good beat. If I feel down I'll probably listen to NF; if I feel great or just meh, I'll be listening to KB (You probably have no idea who he is.. check him out though). Even though I deleted all my songs I had downloaded from GD, I enjoyed the stuff ColBreakz and cloudfield made a lot - ok tunes, nice drumbeat. Bass is good too. Idrk how to describe my complete tastes in music like that (not EDM) but I particularly enjoy house, electro swing, trap, chill, and future bass. Electro house is good too.
Since most GD stuff I listened to had no lyrics, the electronic music I listen to with lyrics is Capital Kings tunes. Good beats, ok lyrics, ok rap.

Any song that tells a story to me is a song I’ll listen to. I’ll listen to anything from Super Paper Mario - The Ultimate Show to Kevin MacLeod - Second Coming (no percussion) to Johann Pachbel - Canon in D as long as they tell a story to me which those songs do. What makes it tell a story to me, I’m not entirely sure, some songs just DO and that’s what I like about music. I’m not really a whole “genre” person and I don’t listen to things just because they’re by a specific artist, heck I don’t even like some Rukkus or Creo songs and those 2 are my favourites at the moment. Anything that tells a story I’ll go for.
Regarding lyrics, I don’t really care about them in the slightest and I don’t care if they have meaning or not, I’m just listening for the sound of the song. If the voice contributes to how the song sounds, then I’ll like it more. If I find that the voice gets in the way then I won’t like it as much. Despacito is strangely one of the songs I do like, I don’t care at all about what the lyrics mean, the sound of the song tells a story to me and that’s what I care about. This is the same case with a couple of TheLivingTombstone’s songs, most notably I Got No Time, I Can’t Fix You and Basics in Behaviour, the lyrics in those songs are all about video games that I don’t really care about at all but it sounds amazing. A case of the voice getting in the way of a song is in TLT’s Die in a Fire, I find the voice in it is kinda annoying and screws up the whole sound of the song. This is the same case in many pop songs, I don’t like a lot of pop. Strangely though, I still do like some Christian music even though I’ve moved on from all of that. I like some Tobymac songs like Eye On It and Me Without You.

I don't really view songs as telling a story to me in most cases, but often I'll try to imagine its meaning in my head as a movie so I sorta understand what you mean. Meanwhile, I wasn't expecting for you to like TobyMac. I literally haven't met a single user who said they liked that kind of music (except for myself duh), so I'm rather surprised.. If you like Me Without You, try Capital Kings's remix of it. They have a few remixes of TobyMac's songs.

I appreciate good rap and artists like Tyler, The Creator and Childish Gambino come to mind. Eminem has a lot of good older songs and his recent songs aren't that bad. If songs have a groovy bass line and nice harmony, I can get behind them too. Mellow jazz and lofi hip hop are cool too. Love a song that feels like a rainy day. I'm also a big Gorillaz fan, and their new album has a lot of good songs on it. Kansas is my favorite.
I can't stand EDM or dubstep, sorry. I just think it sucks, it's super bland and way too loud.

-good production -enjoyable vocals/rapping (if it's not edm) -topic or lyrics not totally idiotic, otherwise i'm not picky about that -i can't stand techno songs where it feels like the bass is the only drum and it blasts loud like three times in a second, for some reason -please do not scream in a song
if i had to name artists: -travis scott -lil uzi vert -joey bada$$ -kendrick lamar -skrillex -bear grylls -datsik -virtual riot

Must have drums Drums must not be weakest instrument Actually every instrument must be treated as the main instrument Variety in sounds or instruments I don't care if it was made with real instruments or in a computer Strong and complex melodies I don't care about the message or meaning behind lyrics as longs as they are well written and complex enough Extra points if there's violin Extra points if it's related to a game or anime I like The rest too hard to explain

if the sounds and ideas are interesting and novel, and are put together in a competent manner, that's honestly good enough. i am a sucker for very intricate, layered songs though
